Multifunctional optical materials can be realized by combining stimuli-responsive photoluminescence (PL), e.g., thermometry, with non-linear (NLO) effects, such as second-harmonic generation (SHG). We report a novel approach towards SHG-active luminescent thermometers achieved constructing unique iridium(iii) complexes, cis-[IrIII(CN)2(R,R-pinppy)2]- (R,R-pinppy = (R,R)-2-phenyl-4,5-pinenopyridine), bearing both chiral 2-phenylpyridine derivative and cyanido ligands, the latter enabling formation of series molecular materials: (TBA)[IrIII(CN)2(R,R-pinppy)2]·2MeCN (1) (TBA+ tetrabutylammonium) (nBu-DABCO)2[IrIII(CN)2(R,R-pinppy)2](i)·MeCN (2) (nBu-DABCO+ 1-(n-butyl)-1,4-diazabicyclo-[2.2.2]octan-1-ium) hybrid salts, (TBA)2{[LaIII(NO3)3(H2O)0.5]2[IrIII(CN)2(R,R-pinppy)2]2} (3) square molecules, {[LaIII(NO3)2(dmf)3][IrIII(CN)2(R,R-pinppy)2]}·MeCN (4) coordination chains. Thanks to pinene group, 1-4 crystallize in non-centrosymmetric space groups leading SHG activity, while N,C-coordination ppy-type ligands Ir(iii) centers generates visible charge-transfer (CT) photoluminescence. The PL characteristics are distinctly temperature-dependent which was utilized achieving ratiometric thermometry below 220 K. phenomena were rationalized DFT/TD-DFT calculations indicating an MLCT-type emission obtained complexes rich vibronic structure providing few bands that variously depend on temperature due role thermally activated vibrations. As these crucial vibrational modes crystal lattice, performance differs within being most efficient 4 is far best also for 4. This proves pinene-functionalized cyclometalated dicyanidoiridates(iii) great prerequisites tunable PL-NLO conjunction effective multifunctionality ensured insertion anions into bimetallic frameworks.

Since the last century, we have witnessed development of molecular magnetism which deals with magnetic materials based on species, i.e., organic radicals and metal complexes. Among them, broadest attention was devoted to molecule-based ferro-/ferrimagnets, spin transition materials, including those exploring electron transfer, nanomagnets, such as single-molecule magnets (SMMs), qubits, stimuli-responsive materials. Their physical properties open application horizons in sensors, data storage, spintronics, quantum computation. It found that various optical phenomena, thermochromism, photoswitching characteristics, luminescence, nonlinear chiroptical effects, well responsivity external stimuli, can be implemented into Moreover, fruitful interactions these effects provide new cross-effects multifunctionality, enriching applications optical, electronic, devices. This Review aims show scope phenomena generated recent advances areas high-temperature photomagnetism, thermometry utilizing SMMs, addressability magneto-chiral dichroism, opto-magneto-electric multifunctionality. These findings are discussed context types accessible for classes

Abstract The number of scientific articles that need to be considered cover a research topic is ever‐increasing and quite difficult for newcomer assimilate. This particularly true in dynamic discipline like Molecular Magnetism. In order help young researchers this field, article proposes “review reviews” also known as an “umbrella review” on lanthanide‐based single‐molecule magnets ( 4 f ‐SMM). As preamble, various bibliographic search techniques AI‐based tools search, indexing, summarization are proposed commented. Then, the main milestones ‐SMM identified. core paper, books, book articles, reviews dealing with contextualized classified by subtopics. therefore gateway field.

By using chloranilate anions to react with 3d complexes ([M(L)(H2O)2], H2L = 1,3-propanediylbis(2-iminomethylene-6-methoxy-phenol)) and 4f ions, a series of phenoxo- chloranilate-bridged zigzag M2Ln2 clusters (M Ni, Ln Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, Eu for 1–5, respectively; M Zn, 6–10, respectively) have been obtained structurally characterized. They are rare 3d–4f heterometallic complexes. All the Tb derivatives exhibit characteristic emission peaks corresponding LnIII ion. Full photoconversion from the closed isomer to open within single crystals allow for monitoring transformation by photocrystallography. Magnetic slow relaxation as well magnetic hysteresis are observed can be both modulated upon light irradiation.
