The global urge to adopt sustainable chemistry has resulted in the development of more environmentally benign strategies (EBS) that use CO2 and CO2-derived chemicals a step-economic manner. In this context, we investigated dual C–H methylation (C═O)-methoxylation indole derivatives using dimethyl carbonate (DMC) presence catalytic amounts Cs2CO3. Mechanistic insights include DMF-assisted, DMC-induced cooperative ionic catalysis, which allows DMC act as both nucleophilic an electrophilic precursor, resulting N-benzylindolyl ketones.

Abstract Herein, we present an efficient, one‐pot reaction for accessing 3‐benzylated indoles via the coupling of benzyl alcohols with under heterogeneous catalysis by manganese ferrite (MnFe 2 O 4 ) nanoparticles. Notably, this reaction, first time, employs MnFe nanoparticles prepared using a simple grinding method. The high compatibility enables broad substrate scope and regioselectivity. Moreover, approach offers several attractive highlights including use recyclable oxide catalyst green cost‐effective alkylating reagents solvent‐free conditions.

Iso-dimethyltryptamine (isoDMT) analogues with heterocyclic substitutions at the indole C(3) were prepared in a hydrogen autotransfer alkylation and tested combination natural unnatural clavine alkaloids model of light-induced retinal degeneration for protection against degeneration. On basis measurements optical coherence tomography electroretinography, three compounds showed better efficacy than positive control bromocriptine equivalent systemically administered doses. These studies provide further insights into role serotonin receptors their potential therapeutic applications ocular diseases.
