Abstract Arthritis is a degenerative disease characterized by chronic cartilage degeneration. It affects hundreds of millions people worldwide and often has serious consequences such as joint pain swelling, limited mobility, deformity. However, conventional treatments still struggle to achieve satisfactory results. Finding more effective for arthritis remains an important clinical challenge. As hydrogels have unique 3D spatial mesh structure, significant material interaction ability, adjustable mechanical properties, good biodegradability, they can provide suitable cellular or tissue microenvironment, their potential in scaffolding effect, lubrication, anti‐inflammatory drug delivery expected be potent therapeutic approach the treatment osteoarthritis. In this review, three aspects hydrogel products osteoarthritis are comprehensively summarized discussed, namely, selection gel design, exploration cross‐linking mechanisms, mechanisms therapy osteoarthritis, focus on advantages limitations applications, which point out direction development strategy innovative field, applied research, transformation.

Osteoarthritis (OA), a prevalent joint disease, causes immense suffering to thousands of patients, impairing their mobility and diminishing quality life. Current treatment methods primarily rely on analgesics or anti-inflammatory drugs alleviate symptoms but fail achieve the desired therapeutic outcome. To better realize effects OA, procyanidins (PAs), as type plant flavonoids with strong antioxidant activities, were designed self-assembly well-dispersible Pluronic F127 (PF127) through hydrogen-bond interaction present an injectable, biocompatibility PA nanospheres. These nanospheres significantly increased cell viability in mouse L929 fibroblasts ADTC5 chondrocytes compared unassembled PAs. In addition, self-assembling PAs/PF127 enhanced protein expression collagen (COL1A1 COL3A1) fibroblasts, glycosaminoglycan COL2A1 was also higher than PAs chondrocytes, this heralded potential OA repair strategies at cellular level. enzymolysis model rat reduce space swelling early stages cartilage destruction accelerate formation subchondral bone cartilaginous surface. This study offers valuable insights into preparation novel for effective OA.
