The current study investigated the in vitro probiotic potential of yeast isolated from kombucha, a tea beverage fermented with symbiotic culture acetic acid bacteria and yeast. A total 62 strains were previously four different commercial kombucha samples sold New Zealand. Fifteen representative isolates belonging to eight species evaluated for their growth under conditions (temperature, low pH, concentrations bile salts, NaCl). Cell surface characteristics, functional enzymatic activities selected also studied triplicate experiments. Results showed that six (Dekkera bruxellensis LBY1, Sachizosaccharomyces pombe LBY5, Hanseniaspora valbyensis DOY1, Brettanomyces anomalus DOY8, Pichia kudraivzevii GBY1, Saccharomyces cerevisiae GBY2) able grow low-acid (at pH 2 3) presence salts. This suggests survive passage through human gut. All 15 exhibited negative activity reactions (haemolytic, gelatinase, phospholipase, protease activities), thus, they can be considered safe consume. Notably, two fifteen (Pichia GBY1 desirable cell hydrophobicity (64.60–83.87%), auto-aggregation (>98%), co-aggregation, resistance tested antibiotics (ampicillin, chloramphenicol, colistin sulphate, kanamycin, nalidixic acid, nitrofurantoin, streptomycin, tetracycline), high levels antioxidant (>90%). Together, our data reveal GBY2 application food production.

Many bacteria live in polymeric fluids, such as mucus, environmental polysaccharides, and extracellular polymers biofilms. However, laboratory studies typically focus on cells polymer-free fluids. Here, we show that interactions with shape a fundamental feature of bacterial life—how they proliferate space multicellular colonies. Using experiments, find when polymer is sufficiently concentrated, generically reversibly form large serpentine “cables” proliferate. By combining experiments biophysical theory simulations, demonstrate this distinctive colony morphogenesis arises from an interplay between polymer-induced entropic attraction neighboring their hindered ability to diffusely separate each other viscous solution. Our work thus reveals pivotal role sculpting proliferating colonies, implications for how interact hosts the natural environment, uncovers quantitative principles governing complex environments.

Bacterial competition may rely on secretion systems such as the type 6 system (T6SS), which punctures and releases toxic molecules into neighboring cells. To subsist, bacterial targets must counteract threats posed by T6SS-positive competitors. In this study, we used a comprehensive genome-wide high-throughput screening approach to investigate dynamics of interbacterial competition. Our primary goal was identify deletion mutants within well-characterized

Abstract Background Due to their prevalence, dental caries ranks first among all diseases endangering human health. Therefore, the prevention of is great significance, as have become a serious public health problem worldwide. Currently, using nanoscale drug delivery systems prevent has received increased attention. However, preventive efficacy these substantially limited due unique physiological structure cariogenic biofilms. Thus, novel strategies aimed at combating biofilms improve efficiency against are meaningful and very necessary. Herein, inspired by cell membrane coating technology Lactobacillus strains, we coated triclosan (TCS)-loaded poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles (TCS@PLGA-NPs) with an envelope (LA/TCS@PLGA-NPs) investigated potential nanoparticle system caries.
