Abstract The main purpose of this systematic review was to examine past literature focusing on the potential relationship between exercise (or physical activity or cardiorespiratory fitness [CRF]) and functional brain connectivity in healthy adults. Among studies meeting purpose, we also evaluated investigating whether, how, may influence exercise–cognition relationship. A employed through several electronic databases (PsychInfo, PubMed, Google Scholar) accordance with PRISMA guidelines. search identified 656 records, a total 12 met inclusion criteria. these studies, there were 4, 7, 1 study, respectively, examining frontal lobe connectivity, temporal whole‐brain connectivity. Also, 7 examined cognitive performance across multiple regions as function exercise. Existing suggests that CRF, habitual activity, varying intensities acute can strengthen connections among wide variety subcortical structures human brain. These exercise‐induced changes within specific structures/networks supporting processing improve various domains function. Given complex associations, thorough understanding how plays mediating role interaction is needed future studies.

<p>It is widely accepted that physical exercise can be used as a tool for the prevention and treatment of various diseases or disorders. In addition, in recent years, has also been successfully to enhance people's cognition. There large amount research supported benefits on human cognition, both children adults. Among these studies, some have focused acute transitory effects while others regular exercise. However, relation between cognition complex we still limited knowledge about moderators mechanisms underlying this relation. Most studies behavioral aspects exercise-effects animal deepened its possible neuro-physiological mechanisms. Even so, thanks advances neuroimaging techniques, there growing body evidence provides valuable information regarding population. This review aims analyze aerobic The exercise-cognition relationship will reviewed from perspective neurophysiological animals, adult humans, infant humans analyzed separately. Abstract Physical activity and cognitive functioning are strongly intertwined. However, the causal relationships underlying this association still unclear. can enhance brain functions, but healthy cognition may also promote engagement in physical activity. Here, we assessed bidirectional between general using Latent Heritable Confounder Mendelian Randomization (LHC-MR). Association data were drawn from two large-scale genome-wide studies (UK Biobank COGENT) on accelerometer-measured moderate, vigorous, average (N = 91,084) 257,841). After Bonferroni correction, observed significant LHC-MR associations suggesting that increased fraction of both moderate (b 0.32, CI 95% [0.17,0.47], P 2.89e − 05) vigorous 0.22, [0.06,0.37], 0.007) lead to functioning. In contrast, found no evidence a effect functioning, reverse (cognitive any measures). These findings provide new supporting beneficial role (MVPA)

Physical exercise, even stress-free very-light-intensity exercise such as yoga and very slow running, can have beneficial effects on executive function, possibly by potentiating prefrontal cortical activity. However, the exact ໿mechanisms underlying this potentiation not been identified. Evidence from studies using pupillometry demonstrates that pupil changes track real-time dynamics of ໿ activity linked to arousal attention, including neural circuits locus coeruleus cortex. This makes it possible examine whether pupil-linked brain induced during mediate benefits function in healthy young adults. In experiment, diameter was measured 10 min (30% Vo2peak). A Stroop task used assess before after exercise. Prefrontal activation assessed multichannel functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). We observed significantly elicited dilation, reduction interference, task-related left dorsolateral cortex compared with resting-control condition. The magnitude change dilation predicted improvement performance. addition, causal mediation analysis showed robustly determined subsequent enhancement finding supports our hypothesis ໿mechanisms, which may be tied activation, are a potential mechanism light enhances function. It also suggests useful tool interpret impact boosting cognition.
