Information on gene action controlling the inheritance of quantitative traits is essential for selecting parents hybridization and multiline varieties. Twenty hybrids obtained through 5 × diallel mating with their were established Teaching Research Farm, Federal University Agriculture, Abeokuta, Nigeria, in September 2018 using Randomized Complete Block Design three replicates. The plants observed numbers days to 50% flowering, plant height at stem girth, number branches per plant, maturity, fruits fruit weight, length, width, yield plant. Data subjected variance analysis, General Specific Combining abilities estimated, effects parameter ratios done Hayman's method. Mid- better-parent heterosis estimated Allard's procedure. Genotype 'NGB00356' was most desirable parent earliness while hybrid 'NGB00347' best 'NGB00356', its significant positive general combining ability value can be used as a program improvement okra.

This paper introduces EURISCO-EVA, an extension of the European Search Catalogue for Plant Genetic Resources (EURISCO), facilitating standardized data collection, sharing, and analysis plant genetic resources food agriculture (PGRFA) characterization evaluation. In framework Evaluation Network (EVA), a private-public partnership aiming at evaluation crop accessions conserved in genebanks, this information system addresses need repository multi-site evaluations different crops. Through centralizing metadata maintenance, EURISCO-EVA ensures uniformity trait definitions, experimental designs, passport data, promoting efficient exchange observed phenotypic data. currently stores more than half million points 4,845 PGRFA from six genera 17 species, collected through 382 experiments conducted 115 locations across 33 countries, involving 89 project partners. platform offers user-friendly web interface, empowering its users with features such as map-based filtering trial locations, statistical overviews, customizable reports. EURISCO-EVA’s robust administrative functionalities, coupled standardization efforts, enhance quality harmonization, providing tool storage access to that could be further enhanced by adding modules. also formed basis management two research projects (AGENT INCREASE) under Horizon 2020 funding program, background organization complex datasets used address future challenges agriculture.

The present study was carried out to evaluate and characterize, for the first time, genetic potential of a collection onion (Allium cepa L.) local accessions from arid region southern Tunisia. diversity among 135 individuals, belonging 23 accessions, evaluated using microsatellite (SSR) markers phenotypic information. A total 35 alleles were generated with 11 SSRs. polymorphic information content (PIC) value ranged 0.08 0.95, an average PIC 0.43. expected heterozygosity averaged 0.37, observed 0.42. analysis molecular variance (AMOVA) revealed that 79% variation existed within individuals. Structure cluster grouped into two major clusters: landraces pre-breeding lines. For traits evaluated, field trials conducted in different environments. Significant differences shown, most traits, there also significant environmental effect interaction between environment accession. Great variability found all could be exploited create new varieties adapted conditions by selecting appropriate parents hybridization breeding.

Abstract Key message Implementing a collaborative pre-breeding multi-parental population efficiently identifies promising donor x elite pairs to enrich the flint maize germplasm. Genetic diversity is crucial for maintaining genetic gains and ensuring breeding programs’ long-term success. In closed program, selection inevitably leads loss of diversity. While managing can delay this loss, introducing external sources necessary bring back favorable variation. resources exhibit greater than materials, but their lower performance levels hinder use. This case European maize, which germplasm has incorporated only limited portion available in landraces. To pool, we established an original cooperative bridging that involves crosses between private materials donors create improved genotypes will facilitate incorporation variations. Twenty × BC1S2 families were created phenotyped hybrid value yield related traits. Crosses showed contrasted means variances therefore potential terms as measured by usefulness criterion (UC). Average expected mean gain over initial material was 5%. The most each line identified. Results also suggest one more generation, i.e., 3 total, crossing required fully exploit donor. Altogether, our results support incorporating into maize. They call further effort fixed identify those suitable program.

Bananas (Musa spp.) are one of the most highly consumed fruits globally, grown in tropical and sub-tropical regions. We evaluated 856 Musa accessions from breeding programs International Institute Tropical Agriculture Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda; National Agricultural Research Organization Brazilian Corporation (Embrapa); Centre for Banana India. Accessions vitro gene bank at Transit Belgium were included to provide a baseline available global diversity. A total 16,903 informative single nucleotide polymorphism markers used estimate characterize genetic diversity population structure identify overlaps unique material among programs. Analysis molecular variance displayed low variation diploids higher tetraploids (p < 0.001). Structure analysis revealed two major clusters corresponding genomic composition. The results indicate that there is potential banana increase their materials should exploit this parental improvement enhance gains future efforts.
