Purpose: Contact lens wear induces corneal parainflammation involving increased immune cell numbers after 24 hours' (CD11c+, Lyz2+, γδ-T cells) and six days' (Ly6G+ wear. After removal, MHC-II+ Ly6G+ cells examined by quantitative imaging. RT-qPCR determined cytokine gene expression. Results: Lens for hours Lyz2+ versus contralateral approximately two-fold. Orthokeratology (OK) contact lenses are increasingly prescribed for myopia control but their impact on corneal epithelial immune cells (CEIC) is unclear. This study compares CEIC in OK wearers to soft lens (SCL) and non-wearers. In vivo confocal microscope images at the central mid-peripheral subbasal level were evaluated 18 wearers, SCL non-wearers (mean age 27.6±8.0 years; 65% female). Corneal cell density was manually quantified morphology graded using a published system. Statistical significances (p<0.05) examined generalised estimating equations. lower than (p=0.03) cornea, not mid-periphery. Contrarily, larger greater proportion of compared (p≤0.04) higher cornea mid-periphery (p<0.001) (p=0.01), (p=0.26). long-term wear, observed epithelium number less likely present suggesting suppressed response wear which should be investigated further.

Purpose: Healthy corneas resist colonization by virtually all microbes, yet contact lens wear can predispose the cornea to sight-threatening infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Here, we explored how changes corneal epithelium transcriptional responses P. aeruginosa and its impact on bacterial gene expression. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is a debilitating microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus, with limited disease-modifying therapies to date. This study aimed assess the effect metformin on corneal sub-basal nerve plexus as outcome measure in people type 2 diabetes. A cohort 36 participants receiving therapy were recruited and underwent clinical assessment, confocal microscopy conduction studies. Concurrently, not selected disease controls matched for age, sex, duration, BMI, eGFR, HbA1c, use other oral glucose-lowering agents used treatment metabolic syndrome. Additionally, 25 healthy control assessed age sex. Medical record data over previous 20 years analysed prior current all Participants had higher fibre density (p=0.020), length (p=0.020) fractal dimension (p=0.003) compared those therapy. The inferior whorl dendritic cell was significantly lower group non-metformin (p=0.043). Metformin associated superior parameters neuroimmune tone plexus. provides further evidence that may be neuroprotective diabetic neuropathy.
