Naive perspective-takers often perceive the social world in a simplistic and uniform way, whereas sophisticated ones recognize diversity complexity of others' minds. This commonly accepted distinction points to possibility greater inter-individual variability mentalizing for than naive perspective-takers, difference previously overlooked research. In this study, we recorded participants' neural responses using functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) as they viewed movie eye-gaze trajectories separate eye-movement experiment. The results provide robust converging evidence that connectomic features network exhibit among versus suggesting engage distinctive collaboration patterns within network, while show more homogeneous processing. These findings deepen our understanding by highlighting idiosyncrasy homogeneity across varying levels perspective-taking sophistication.

Abstract People are remarkably self-focused, disproportionately choosing to think about themselves relative other topics. Self-focus can be adaptive, helping individuals fulfill their needs. It also go haywire, with maladaptive self-focus a risk and maintenance factor for internalizing disorders like depression. Yet, the neural mechanism driving people focus on remains unknown.
