Abstract Based on panel data from 2010 to 2019, this study examines the relationship between defense science and technology innovation high‐quality economic development at provincial level in China. Using gray correlation analysis method of an evaluation index system development, we calculate coefficient decompose its time‐series degree cross‐sectional. Our findings indicate that China is generally stable during 2010–2019. However, Beijing stands out as exception with a less than 0.5. Furthermore, there regional heterogeneity smallest found eastern region largest northeast region. our results, propose three countermeasure suggestions: first, balance national construction construction; second, optimize strategy according local conditions; third, effectively utilize industrial structure advantages. This commentary provides a short review of the history and current state transition studies, explores how deepened exchange with economic geographers could be fostered at geography sustainability transitions interface along three fronts.
