This study examines the English language competency (ELC) and pedagogical (PC) of prospective teachers in teacher education institutes (TEIs) across Odisha, India. Recognizing importance good training for effective teaching, this research employed a mixed-method approach, assessing sample 70 trainee-teachers through standardized knowledge test complemented by qualitative question, addressing challenges faced them. The results were concerning, with average scores 42.36% ELC 46.36% PC, highlighting major gaps both proficiency teaching methods. A one-way ANOVA suggested no significant differences performance among trainees from different TEIs indicating that all similar challenges. Qualitative analysis highlighted including overdependence on old-fashioned methods like grammar translation method (GTM), limited use information communication technology (ICT), issues teachers, administrative issues. Despite these impediments, ongoing educational reforms introduced National Education Policy 2020 Odisha Government present promising opportunities enhancing education. emphasizes urgent need comprehensive faculty development initiatives, adoption innovative practices, increased utilization ICT tools within preparation programs. findings are essential policymakers, educators, stakeholders aiming to improve quality instruction better prepare future educators Odisha.

English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners face various challenges when writing, including mechanics such spelling, punctuation, and capitalization. If the are incorrect, understanding text can be difficult, meaning distorted. Moreover, how EFL students instructors perceive these errors is vital for enhancing language instruction providing targeted feedback. This study explored perceptions of regarding mechanical in paragraph writing employing mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative quantitative surveys. According to findings, had different opinions about errors. Male female also differed their perceptions. Their perspectives on spelling punctuation diverged. Students thought issues were most severe, but believed that was biggest problem, commas full stops. Furthermore, provided potential reasons suggested strategies address issues. The results offer practical implications curriculum development, instructional design, instructor training contexts .
