Abstract To investigate the associations between dietary patterns and biological aging, identify most recommended pattern for coping with aging explore potential mediating role of gut microbiota in less-developed ethnic minority regions (LEMRs). This prospective cohort study included 8288 participants aged 30-79 years from China Multi-Ethnic Cohort (CMEC). Anthropometric measurements clinical biomarkers were utilized to construct age based on Klemera Doubal’s method (KDM-BA) KDM-BA acceleration (KDM-AA). Dietary information was obtained through baseline food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). Six constructed: plant-based diet index (PDI), healthful (hPDI), unhealthful (uPDI), healthy score (HDS), Approaches Stop Hypertension (DASH), alternative Mediterranean diets (aMED). Epigenetic age quantifies biological using DNA methylation information and is a potential pathway by which physical activity benefits general health. We aimed to assess the cross-sectional longitudinal associations between epigenetic in middle-aged older Australians. Blood data for 6208 participants (40% female) Melbourne Collaborative Cohort Study (MCCS) were available at baseline (1990-1994, mean age, 59 years) and, of those, 1009 follow-up (2003-2007, 69 years). Physical measurements (weighted scores total MET hours per week follow-up) calculated from self-reported questionnaire data. Five blood methylation-based markers ageing (PCGrimAge, PCPhenoAge, bAge, DNAmFitAge, DunedinPACE) four fitness-related (DNAmGaitspeed, DNAmGripmax, DNAmVO2max, DNAmFEV1) adjusted age. ABSTRACT Background & aims Suboptimal diets increase morbidity and mortality risk. Epigenetic clocks are algorithms that can assess health lifespan, even at a young age, before clinical manifestations of diseases. We investigated the association between dietary patterns biological aging in adult twins. Methods The data were drawn from population-based FinnTwin12 study consisted twins aged 21–25 years (n=826). Food beverage intakes assessed using food frequency questionnaire. Biological was estimated epigenetic GrimAge DunedinPACE. Latent class analysis used to identify patterns. linear regression modeling individual level, followed by within–twin pair analyses account for genetic liabilities shared familial confounders. Results Six identified: 1) High fast food, low fruits vegetables (F&V), 2) Plant-based, 3) Health-conscious, 4) Western with infrequent fish, 5) regular 6) Balanced average. At acceleration slower Balanced-average compared F&V, faster fish pattern average, regardless sex, nonalcoholic energy intake, smoking, alcohol consumption. After further adjustment BMI sports participation, strengths associations modestly decreased; however, difference F&V remained significant. pace (DunedinPACE) Plant-based after alcohol. effect sizes attenuated reached non-significant level when participation added model. Most replicated within-pair among all twin pairs dizygotic pairs, but tended be smaller monozygotic pairs. This suggests genetics, not environment, may partially explain observed diet aging. Conclusion Diets high processed red meat, sugar-sweetened beverages associated accelerated adulthood. clustering lifestyle factors confounders should considered interpreting findings.
