This
article
explores
the
temporal
disturbances
experienced
in
depression
and
potential
effectiveness
of
mindfulness-based
interventions
addressing
these
disturbances.
Drawing
upon
a
Husserlian
framework,
this
examines
three
phases
experience:
retention,
primal
impression,
protention.
These
constitute
fusion
that
allows
us
to
perceive
an
event
as
temporally
extended
event,
encompassing
past,
present,
future.
In
depression,
sense
anticipation
belief
for
positive
change
are
diminished,
leading
perception
future
static
unchangeable,
hence
resembling
past.
Depressed
individuals

experience
past
thoughts

Mindfulness-based
interventions
(MBIs)
