Melatonin acts as a crucial signaling molecule with multiple physiological functions in plant response to abiotic and biotic stresses. However, the impact regulatory mechanism of melatonin on attenuating tomato fruit fungal decay are unclear. In this study, we investigated potential roles modulating resistance Botrytis cinerea explored related molecular mechanisms. The results revealed that disease was strongly enhanced by treatment, 50 μM confirmed best concentration. treatment increased activities defense-related enzymes decreased hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) content antioxidant enzyme activities. Moreover, found methyl jasmonate (MeJA) content; up-regulated expressions SlLoxD, SlAOC, SlPI II; reduced SlMYC2 SlJAZ1. We postulated played positive role through regulating H2O2 level JA pathway.

To better understand the function of melatonin in tomato fruit ripening and quality improvement, a label-free quantitation method was used to investigate proteins that differ between control (CK) 50 μm treatment (M50) fruits. Proteomics data identified 241 were significantly influenced by melatonin. These involved several ripening-related pathways, including cell wall metabolism, oxidative phosphorylation, carbohydrate, fatty acid metabolism. Moreover, application exogenous increased eight are related anthocyanin accumulation during ripening. Additionally, affected protein levels correlated with corresponding gene transcript levels. Further, total content from M50 52%, 48%, 50% at 5, 8, 13 DAT (day after treatment), respectively. The melatonin-mediated promotion might be due altered processes associated In this work, we indicated senescence-related downregulated fruit, while apoptosis inhibitor (API5) upregulated. addition, peroxidases (POD9, POD12, peroxidase p7-like) catalase (CAT3) Based on previous studies our data, inferred positively but negatively senescence. Abstract Plant melatonin research is a rapidly developing field. A variety of isoforms melatonin’s biosynthetic enzymes are present in different plants. Due to the origins, they exhibit independent responses variable environmental stimuli. The locations for biosynthesis plants chloroplasts and mitochondria. These organelles have inherited their capacities from bacterial ancestors. Under ideal conditions, main sites biosynthesis. If chloroplast pathway blocked any reason, mitochondrial will be activated maintain its production. Melatonin metabolism less studied field; quite that animals even though share similar metabolites. Several new been cloned these absent animals. It seems 2-hydroxymelatonin major metabolite level ~400-fold higher than melatonin. In current article, an evolutionary point view, we update information on plant metabolism. This review help reader understand complexity processes promote enthusiasm fields.

Plants endure challenging environments in which they are constantly threatened by diverse pathogens. The soil-borne fungus Verticillium dahliae is a devastating pathogen affecting many plant species including cotton, it significantly reduces crop yield and fiber quality. Melatonin involvement immunity to pathogens has been reported, but the mechanisms of melatonin-induced resistance unclear. In this study, role melatonin enhancing cotton V. was investigated. At transcriptome level, exogenous increased expression genes phenylpropanoid, mevalonate (MVA), gossypol pathways after inoculation. As result, lignin gossypol, products these metabolic pathways, increased. Silencing serotonin N-acetyltransferase 1 (GhSNAT1) caffeic acid O-methyltransferase (GhCOMT) biosynthesis compromised resistance, with reduced levels Exogenous pre-treatment prior inoculation restored level above gene silencing effects. were higher resistant cultivars than susceptible findings indicate that affects synthesis MVA, thereby dahliae.
