ABSTRACT Distant hybridization and gynogenesis are two prevalent breeding techniques for fishes. Drawing from the research achievements of our team existing literature, we summarize reproductive traits genetic features fishes derived distant hybridizations gynogenesis, deduce fundamental mechanisms these methods compare them, discerning their common different characteristics. Both can alter genotypes phenotypes, thus establishing them as significant methods. Additionally, principles basic biological characteristics in fish have been inferred. We propose concepts macro‐hybrid micro‐hybrid based on extensive experimental findings gynogenesis. The term “macro‐hybrid” refers to offspring that possess distinct subgenomes, each inherited one parental species, such allodiploid allotetraploid lineages. concept “micro‐hybrid” offspring, including autodiploid autotetraploid lineages, well those resulting artificial whose genome almost originates solely maternal parent but which certain DNA fragments paternal insert. vital genetics, breeding, evolution. highlight prospective paths application
