Studies on the effect of surface texture cylinder liner wear is great importance in many research areas due to fact that a major part mechanical power losses an engine are caused by friction piston-cylinder system. Interest from both manufacturers and customers optimizing this system seems be similar. The roughness liners plays important role control tribological properties. Cylinder topography, which affects running-in duration, oil consumption, exhaust gas emissions performance as well, was taken into detailed consideration paper. They were measured with stylus (Talyscan 150) or non-contact—optical (Talysurf CCI Lite white light interferometer) equipment. Precise machining process accurate measurement equipment may not provide relevant information about properties when procedure processing received (raw) data selected appropriately. This work aims compare various type procedures for detection reduction some-frequency topography errors (noise) consider its influence results analysis. It found assessments some extracted (profiles) much more useful than characterization whole details noise defined. Moreover, applications commonly-used algorithm, available commercial software measuring equipment, suppression potentially decisive definition but, simultaneously, scrupulous attention should paid if they implemented adequately.

High-fidelity characterization and effective monitoring of spatial spatiotemporal processes are crucial for high-performance quality control many manufacturing systems in the era smart manufacturing. Although recent development measurement technologies has made it possible to acquire high-resolution three-dimensional (3D) surface data, is generally expensive time-consuming use such real-world production settings. Data-driven approaches that stem from statistics machine learning can potentially enable intelligent, cost-effective thus allow manufacturers data better decision-making without introducing substantial cost induced by acquisition. Among these methods, interpolation techniques draw inferences about unmeasured locations on a using other locations, decreasing time. However, methods very sensitive availability their performances largely depend scheme or sampling design, i.e., how allocate efforts. As such, design considered be another important field enables intelligent measurement. This paper reviews summarizes state-of-the-art research varied applications. Research gaps future directions also identified serve as fundamental guideline industrial practitioners researchers studies areas.

Quantitative characterization and uncertainty evaluation of areal step height is increasing importance for semiconductor manufacturing. However, characterizations often confront problems repeatability reproducibility due to fitting upper lower planes. To solve this problem, we propose a cluster-based method evaluation. By data reconstruction K-means clustering, our converts characterizing steps into approximating Euclidean distances, without necessity fit Moreover, it can evaluate uncertainties simultaneously with parameterization. Abstract This study proposes a novel filter, namely areal RrVMD based on Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD), for decomposing surface texture into the form, waviness and roughness. VMD is one of latest signal decomposition techniques has been introduced field metrology recently. The paper develops residual-restrained method to further improved algorithm. It consists three processing steps: firstly, calculating robust weight function; secondly, corresponding k modes residual by using devised VMD; thirdly, identifying different topography features wavelengths modes. also algorithm handle outliers defects measured surface. experimental results demonstrate that can precisely separate roughness eliminate efficiently.
