The COVID-19 pandemic affected the lives of children in a myriad ways across world. It exposed and aggravated existing inequalities between within countries continents hampered education. In Guinea-Bissau, school closure was one first restrictions implemented to confront emerging pandemic. aim describe analyse experiences adolescents closures capital Bissau, their concerns about future manifestations inequality. Data were collected by semi-structured, open-ended interviews with 30 aged 15-17 years three months into during an enforced state emergency. A thematic analysis identified five themes: appreciation education, feeling left behind, being stuck confinement, suggestions for support, disrupted future. results highlight global rather than local demographic, manifested lack targeted educational support public private students; they knew such efforts elsewhere. school-attending participants suggested mitigate disruptions while those out aiming return saw possibilities fading away. They appreciated education personal national benefits, worried long-term effects study highlighted loss all expectations.

Co-designing research-informed guidelines with youth for adapting research methods to other contexts has received little attention. We report on co-designed arts-based (ABM) mental health (MH) in online environments. Seven co-researchers participated 3 co-design workshops and 2 graphic recording focus groups. Data analysis involved a thematic approach. identified one overarching theme (sustaining mindful presence when conducting research) 4 subthemes (creating safe space, having say, facilitating meaningful engagement, paying receptive attention throughout the process). Facilitating participants’ authentic expression environments requires: 1) Letting self-identify; 2) incorporating diversity inclusion; 3) providing accommodations, recognition, compensation; 4) language considerations; 5) offering ABM training resources creating art; 6) using virtual platforms use; 7) being of ethical considerations technology fatigue; 8) addressing barriers accessing technology; 9) choice type used; 10) options communicating during activities engaging outside allotted time (e.g., email, group chat). In times of disasters and adversity, children are among the most vulnerable. The United Nations Convention on Rights Child (1989) highlights importance protecting from harm making decisions in their best interests—matters that become heightened an adverse context. From 2020 to 2023, government Aotearoa New Zealand employed strict lockdown vaccination requirements ensure such rights were upheld during COVID-19 pandemic. This article reports a small-scale research study conducted after first lockdown, involving aged 3–8. extends discussion children’s disaster or context, as pandemic, include Articles 12 13 Convention, which focus express views them freely. Using conduit stories about toy bear, along with willing parents, gained insights into understandings, emotions, experiences this time. revealed at home navigating new identity they displayed connection, autonomy, responsibility, compassion. Objective: This study examined children’s representations of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) as well their pandemic experiences against backdrop world having transitioned to normalcy. Design: Mixed-methods approach encompassing both qualitative and quantitative analysis. Setting: Two middle schools in Hefei city mid-eastern China. Method: Data were collected using a task which elicited drawings, commentaries, answers questions related experiences, followed by small-group interviews. Content analysis emergent coding techniques employed analyse data, extracted themes then quantified reveal incidence distribution. Results: Analysis multimodal data set revealed children not only depicted viral morphology but also evoked emotions. The had brought about changes lives, marked shift towards more academic activities, rest relaxation screen time. These raised psychological, physical social development concerns warranting mitigation. Multifaceted sources identified contributing unhappiness, including restricted interactions, educational challenges, emotional psychological issues. Notably, reported enhanced pre- post-pandemic hygiene sanitisation practices. Unsubstantiated beliefs relating processes recovery suggest need for clearer communication this regard. Conclusion: highlights necessity health education support coping during build resilience future epidemics.
