ABSTRACT In Asia, carnivore conservation is often focused on charismatic big cats. Opportunities to conserve the entire guild are frequently overlooked by channeling and mitigation efforts into single‐species conservation. We synthesize experiences across Asia explore these challenges propose mitigations maximize benefits for guild. Seven wolves ( Canis lupus ) in highlighted: (1) have been neglected over decades of conservation, (2) receive less cultural appreciation many regions, (3) subject lax legislation law enforcement, (4) blamed disproportionately livestock depredation, (5) considered more abundant than they are, (6), little attention from scientific communities relative their ecological importance, (7) threatened ecologically genetically increasing feral dog populations. As a result, status poorly documented, there an enhanced risk losing significant evolutionary lineages, it detracts research opportunities preserve various remedies, such as widening scope existing programs, building awareness knowledge enforcement agencies, inform legislation.

Human-wildlife conflict (HWC) represent a significant global issue, leading to economic losses for humans due the destruction of agricultural products and livestock. This study was conducted in southeastern Iran with two primary objectives: identify major environmental variables influencing spatial risk modeling pinpoint patches hotspots damage caused by Indian crested porcupine (ICP) this region. An ensemble technique used evaluate ICP, drawing on 111 independent records nine factors. The findings indicated that distance villages, orchard density, cropland Normalized Difference Vegetation Index emerged as most crop from ICP Nine patches, comprising approximately 8% area, were identified attributed ICP. three largest located west accounted 80% all predicted Additionally, clustered western part area. Conservation areas covered about 2.4% damage, respectively. Urgent attention is needed reduce human-ICP conflicts patches. We strongly recommend implementing fencing around cultivated lands individual tree trunks, well enhancing local knowledge insurance products, mitigate

ABSTRACTHuman‒carnivore conflict (HCC) is a worldwide conservation challenge. A multi-method approach was used to assess the perceived threats posed human life or property by carnivores and determine effects of socio-demographic environmental factors on HCC in south-western Iran. Results showed that red foxes, gray wolves honey badgers were main species responsible for conflict. People with higher education less likely kill report negative attitudes toward them. Human alterations natural habitats are majority HCC, an anthropogenic factor (distance cropland) as top predictor. Villages highest probability located proximity national parks. The presence landfill sites settlements improper waste disposal methods may increase HCC. Focusing mitigation measures high-risk areas can potentially reduce conflicts lead decrease retaliatory killings predators.KEYWORDS: Community attitudeensemble modelgray wolfhoney badgerhuman-wildlife conflictpredictive modelingred fox Disclosure statementNo potential interest reported author(s).

An increasing trend in zoonotic and emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) has been observed worldwide. Most EID outbreaks originate from wildlife, these often involve pathogen-host-environment interaction. Garbage dumps act as an interface between humans, animals, the environment, which EIDs could arise. Therefore, this review considers presence of important pathogens associated with animals vectors at garbage a One Health perspective, looking animal, human, environmental factors that play role. A narrative was performed focusing on four key points, including dumps, waste pickers, zoonoses EIDs. Articles addressing terrestrial insects among pickers were included study. There 345 relevant articles covering 395 species insects, consisting 4 amphibians, 180 birds, 84 114 mammals, 13 reptiles. Furthermore, 97 (28.12 %) addressed found those populations. About half interested bacterial (52.58 %), followed by parasitic (30.93 viral %). Zoonotic described 53.6 % all articles, while 19.59 focused drug-resistant microbes, 13.40 rodent-borne diseases, 7.21 vector-borne diseases. would role emergence The may increase risk disease include increased animal populations density, vector population, newly evolved strains pathogens, interaction domestic vectors, socio-economic factors. sustainable management will reduce generation, improve collection, disposal helps new
