Abstract Climate warming is considered to be among the most serious of anthropogenic stresses environment, because it not only has direct effects on biodiversity, but also exacerbates harmful other human‐mediated threats. The associated consequences are potentially severe, particularly in terms threats species preservation, as well preservation an array ecosystem services provided by biodiversity. Among affected groups animals insects—central components many ecosystems—for which climate change pervasive from individuals communities. In this contribution scientists' warning series, we summarize effect gradual global surface temperature increase insects, physiology, behavior, phenology, distribution, and interactions, increased frequency duration extreme events such hot cold spells, fires, droughts, floods these parameters. We warn that, if no action taken better understand reduce will drastically our ability build a sustainable future based healthy, functional ecosystems. discuss perspectives relevant ways conserve insects face change, offer several key recommendations management approaches that can adopted, policies should pursued, involvement general public protection effort.

ABSTRACT Biological control is widely successful at controlling pests, but effective biocontrol agents are now more difficult to import from countries of origin due restrictive international trade laws (the Nagoya Protocol). Coupled with increasing demand, the efficacy existing and new needs be improved genetic genomic approaches. Although they have been underutilised in past, application techniques becoming feasible both technological economic perspectives. We review current methods provide a framework for using them. First, it necessary identify which trait select what direction. Next, genes or markers linked these traits need determined, including how implement this information into selective breeding program. Choosing can assisted by modelling account proper agro‐ecological context, knowing sufficiently high heritability values. guidelines designing strategies programs, depend on organism, budget, desired objective. Genomic approaches start genome sequencing assembly. guide deciding most strategy agents. Gene discovery involves quantitative loci analyses, transcriptomic proteomic studies, gene editing. Improving practices includes marker‐assisted selection, selection microbiome manipulation agents, monitoring variation during rearing post‐release. conclude identifying promising applications improve biological efficacy.

Plastics are inexpensive and widely used organic polymers, but their high durability hinders biodegradation. Polystyrene, including extruded polystyrene (also known as styrofoam), is among the most commonly produced plastics worldwide recalcitrant to microbial degradation. In this study, we assessed changes in gut microbiome of superworms (Zophobas morio) reared on bran, or under starvation conditions over a 3 weeks period. Superworms all diets were able complete life cycle pupae imago, although had minimal weight gains, resulting lower pupation rates compared bran worms. The change communities from baseline differed considerably between diet groups, with groups characterized by loss diversity presence opportunistic pathogens. Inferred functions enriched group included transposon movements, membrane restructuring adaptations oxidative stress. We detected several encoded enzymes reported styrene degradation abilities, supporting previous reports polystyrene-degrading bacteria superworm gut. By recovering metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) linked phylogeny identified genera Pseudomonas, Rhodococcus Corynebacterium that possess genes associated conclusion, our results provide first metagenomic insights into metabolic pathways degrade polystyrene. Our also confirm can survive feed, has considerable negative impacts host health.
