Abstract The link between male song and reproductive success has been explored at length in socially monogamous birds. However, results were inconsistent under-represented non-monogamous species with uniparental care. Using information-theoretic approach, found that number 9-day-old nestlings fathered increased A-song rate, but was not explained by size cycle. Abstract Researchers studying the evolution of animal communication often ask what generates and maintains signal complexity, but they define measure complexity in different ways. If metrics are not concordant, then studies using them probably comparable. In this study, we asked whether 7 bird song vary tandem among individuals a single species, Rock Wren (Salpinctes obsoletus). The included were chosen because regularly used by researchers field to test hypotheses within literature. Results indicated that none positively correlated with any others, suggesting songs under general selective pressures favoring increased across multiple features. correlated, care should be taken when designing analyses comparing results. always clearly “complexity” investigation verify it has significance study species. We analysed acoustic characteristics songs recorded during three time periods over 40-year frame for species declining honeycreepers. detected loss diversity period that paralleled dramatic declines. Behavioral sex differences are widespread in the animal world. These can be qualitative (i.e., behavior present one but not other, a true dimorphism) or quantitative (behavior is at higher rate quality compared to other). Singing oscine songbirds associated with both types of differences. In canaries, female rarely sing spontaneously they induced do so by treatments steroids. Song these females is, however, fully masculinized and exhibits relatively subtle as male song. We analyzed here syllable content use between singing canaries. Songs were recorded from three groups castrated photoregressed canaries that had received Silastic™ implants filled testosterone (T), T plus estradiol (E2), left empty (control). After 6 weeks hormone treatment, 30 songs each 47 subjects. segmented was annotated. Various metrics diversity extracted network analysis employed characterize sequences. Among songbirds with large song-type repertoires, there may be functional variation in how individuals organize and display diversity over time. Past studies focusing on conventional measures of song production have been extremely productive. Abstract Across populations, animals that inhabit areas with high anthropogenic noise produce vocalizations differ from those inhabiting less noisy environments. Such patterns may be due to individuals rapidly adjusting their songs in response changing noise, but individual variation is seldom explored.
