Abstract Background: Several instruments are available to assess sleep quality, including the 19-item Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). As shorter measures may be desirable for use in clinical settings or population-based research, we evaluated validity of a 2-item quality screener, PSQI-2. Methods: The PSQI-2 inquiries about duration and subjective over past 30 days, scoring each from 0 ("very good"; > 7h sleep) 3 bad"; < 5h sleep). sum two items generates score 6; higher score, worse quality. This study was conducted with 1,762 adults household survey stratified sampling between October December 2020 Brazil. Concurrent assessed using full PSQI as reference test. Results: scores increased 6, substantial increase has been found prevalence individuals poor (p <0.05). had excellent internal consistency (α = 0.94 ω 0.85) known-group validity, scale symptoms depression anxiety. Considering 5 (poor quality) reference, best cut-off point 2, sensitivity 77.9% specificity 73.8%. concurrent revealed acceptable performance 7, exceptional 10. Conclusion: presents good/excellent evidence screening sample Brazilian adults.

Abstract Study Objectives Sleep disturbance may cause suicidal ideation (SI). This study aimed to examine their co-occurrence rate among adolescents and investigate whether psychotic-like experiences (PLEs) mediate this association. Methods A total of 17 722 Chinese were included in two-wave longitudinal study. The baseline survey (time 1, T1) was conducted between April 21 May 12, 2021, the follow-up 2, T2) implemented December 26, 2021. At T1, participants completed questionnaires assess sleep disturbance, duration, PLEs, SI, depressive symptoms, sociodemographic characteristics. T2, reported negative life events. Results SI prevalence decreased from 20.2% (T1) 18.4% (T2). Participants with showed significantly higher short duration compared those without SI. Baseline both associated increased risk 6 months later. These links mediated by independent covariates Conclusions findings provide a novel insight into mechanism linking problems suicidality, stress significance assessing addressing PLEs for adolescent suicide prevention intervention.

Sleep problems are common among veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder and closely associated hyperarousal symptoms. Transcutaneous vagus nerve stimulation (tVNS) may have potential to improve sleep quality in PTSD through effects on brain systems relevant sleep-wake regulation. The current pilot study examines the effect of 1 h tVNS administered at "lights out" architecture, microstructure, autonomic activity. Thirteen completed two nights laboratory-based polysomnography during which they received either active (tragus) or sham (earlobe) randomised order. staging stability metrics were derived from data. Autonomic activity was assessed using Porges-Bohrer method for calculating respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA

Objective: Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a common disorder in people with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Although disturbances have been associated an increased risk of suicide compared the general population, relationship between OSA and after TBI not well documented. In this study, we hypothesized that diagnosis would predict veterans TBI. Setting: Five Veterans Affairs (VA) Polytrauma Rehabilitation Centers. Participants: Participants were drawn from VA Model Systems follow-up interviews at year 1 ( n = 392), 2 444), 5 498), or 10 252) post-TBI (7.8%-14.5% attrition). Design: This was retrospective analysis observational data using logistic regression repeated measurements. Suicide ideation attempts examined as outcomes each to evaluate adjusting for other factors determined priori via literature review. Main Measures: Suicidal (Patient Health Questionnaire-9 item 9), attempt during past (self-reported), (self-reported). Results: Contrary study hypotheses, had no statistically significant association accounting known predictors. However, greater depression symptoms, headache severity, pre-TBI suicidal predicted Conclusions: Results did support risk, possibly due methodological limitations measurement. Future research on topic should include objective measures severity treatment including adherence. low base rate occurrence, impact disastrous further needed mitigate risk.

Abstract Study Objectives This study (1) assessed sleep quality and health in Gulf War veterans (GWV) meeting the Illness (GWI) criteria (2) compared associations for both those a “clinically disturbed sleep” threshold, below, as determined by Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) cutoff military populations (≥10) on measures of physical, mental, cognitive health. Methods Participant data consisted questionnaires assessments completed prior to group assignment clinical trial. The sample 147 GWV, where 81.0% were males, median age was 53.4 years. Results mean (SD) PSQI global score 12.34 (4.00) with 61% qualifying clinically sleepers according (global ≥ 10). GWI scores ≥10 did not differ from others (p = 0.20), sex 0.19), or years education 0.87), but showed worse GW-related symptomology Kansas questionnaire < 0.01), poorer mental Veterans Rand-36 0.01). Conclusions Disturbed associated pain, fatigue, Our results suggest that previously threshold is useful when examining status population. Given elevated high frequency sleep, cutoffs determining should be sensitive population exposures history improve interpretability.

Improving public health approaches to suicide prevention requires scalable evidence-based interventions that can be easily disseminated. Given empirical data supporting the association between insomnia and risk, internet-delivered are promising candidates meet this need. The purpose of study was examine whether an unguided cognitive-behavioral therapy for (iCBT-I) improved severity, suicidal ideation (SI), risk correlates (depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, hostility, belongingness, hopelessness, agitation, irritability, concentration) in a sample veterans. Secondary analysis Operation Enduring Freedom, Iraqi New Dawn veterans (n = 50) with clinically significant elevated SI drawn from larger randomized controlled trial (RCT) iCBT-I, Sleep Healthy Using Internet (SHUTi). Two-sample t-tests or Wilcoxon rank sum tests were used evaluate between-group differences (SHUTi vs. Insomnia Education Website control) symptom improvement baseline post-intervention. SHUTi participants experienced severity (P < .001; d -1.08) non-significant small (subthreshold medium) effect size reduction .17, 0.40), compared control participants. Significant hopelessness observed (medium size), medium reductions most remaining correlates. Self-administered iCBT-I associated improvements at suicide. These preliminary findings suggest may improve following intervention, demonstrating need future well-powered RCTs targeted populations risk.
