HMGR is a crucial enzyme in the biosynthesis of terpenoids. We cloned FaHMGR and found that expression fruit was significantly higher than other tissues, especially during coloring stage. Suppression (FaHMGRR) promoted coloration by increasing anthocyanin content produced five new components. In contrast, overexpression (FaHMGROE) downregulated most genes reduced hexanoic acid methyl ester linalool contents, thereby inhibiting coloring. Transcriptomic metabolomic analyses showed DEGs HMGROE vs. HMGRC (pCAMBIA1302 empty vector transformant serving as control) were enriched phenylpropanoid pathway pathways related to terpenoid metabolism MeJA, suggesting MeJA potential mediator HMGR’s influence on pathways. Additionally, HMGRR biosynthesis, particularly keracyanin pelargonidin, which may explain observed HMGRR. WGCNA analysis identified module with distinct patterns HMGROE, including ERF118 WRKY12, impact quality regulating activity.
