Sulfur is essential for the health of plants and an indispensable dietary component human disease prevention. Its incorporation into our food supply heavily reliant upon uptake sulfur plant tissue subsequent intake. Dietary requirements are largely calculated based sulfur-containing amino acids (SAA), cysteine methionine, to meet demands synthesis proteins, enzymes, co-enzymes, vitamins, hormones. SAA found in abundance animal sources relatively low plants. However, some plants, particularly cruciferous allium vegetables, produce many protective secondary metabolites, such as glucosinolates sulfoxides. The variety quantity these metabolites extensive their effects on wide-reaching. Many benefits appear be related sulfur's role redox biochemistry, protecting against uncontrolled oxidative stress inflammation; features consistent within cardiometabolic dysfunction chronic metabolic diseases aging. This narrative explores origins importance sulfur, its sources. It also overarching potential health, around amelioration inflammation,

Comprehensive Summary A novel transient SET mediator approach has been developed for the photoinduced radical‐radical cross coupling reaction. Using in‐situ generated thianthrene radical cation as mediator, thiocyanation and selenocyanation of aryl thianthrenium salts have realized under mild conditions without need photocatalyst or single electron donor. In comparison with enabled process, protocol features conditions, simple manipulation, a broad substrate scope, excellent functional group heterocycle tolerance. Due to feasible accessibility salts, this method also applied in efficient synthesis bioactive molecule, late‐stage functionalization complex arenes.

Naturally, thiophenes represent a small family of natural metabolites featured by one to five thiophene rings. Numerous plant species belonging the Asteraceae commonly produce thiophenes. These possessed remarkable bioactivities, including antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, larvicidal, antioxidant, insecticidal, cytotoxic, and nematicidal properties. The current review provides an update over past seven years for reported derivatives, their sources, biosynthesis, spectral data, bioactivities since last published in 2015. The reactions of elemental sulfur (S8 ) and polysulfides with nucleophiles are relevant to organic synthesis, materials science biochemistry, but the mechanisms by which they operate still unknown due inherent thermodynamic kinetic instability polysulfide intermediates. Using Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations at ωB97X-D/aug-cc-pV(T+d)Z/SMD(MeCN) // ωB97X-D/aug-cc-pVDZ/SMD(MeCN) level theory, we studied behind reaction cyanide phosphines, quantitatively generate monosulfide products thiocyanate phosphine sulfides, respectively. All plausible pathways including nucleophilic decomposition, unimolecular scrambling reactions, attack on thiosulfoxides, have been considered provide first comprehensive mechanistic picture for this class reactions. Overall, intramolecular cyclization is identified as most favorable decomposition pathway long polysulfides. For short polysulfides, a mixture attack, can be expected.
