Pavlovian conditioned contextual cues have been suggested to modulate instrumental action and might explain maladaptive behavior such as relapse in participants suffering from alcohol use disorder (AUD). Pavlovian-to-Instrumental transfer (PIT) experimentally assesses the magnitude of this context-dependent effect studies shown a larger PIT AUD populations. Taken into account, reduction influence on seems warranted one approach that could alter cue reactivity is mindfulness. Mindfulness-based interventions be efficient treatment AUD, but underlying mechanisms are yet elucidated. Therefore, we aim at investigating brief mindful body scan meditation subjects matched controls.Using randomized within-subjects design, compared short audio guided against control condition (audio nature sounds) healthy (n = 35) 27) participants. We found no differences between well conditions. However, significant interaction points decreased after only. These pilot results suggest susceptible mindfulness-induced changes PIT, with these findings contributing entangling efficacy mindfulness-based AUD. further investigation should confirm preliminary mindfulness practice decreasing effect.

Abstract Purpose of the Review To provide a systematic review experimental studies concerning cognitive functions in compulsive buying-shopping disorder (CBSD) and to evaluate as supporting or not affective interactions proposed by Interaction Person-Affect-Cognition-Execution (I-PACE) model for addictive behaviors. Recent Findings The results present CBSD mirror findings regarding cue reactivity disadvantageous decision making other behaviors, but they also demonstrate relative lack addressing domains such attentional bias, inhibitory control, implicit associations, Pavlovian-to-instrumental transfer. Experimental work on physiological neural correlates mechanisms their interaction is still at beginning. Summary While reasonable number neuropsychological support application I-PACE framework CBSD, future research required systematically examine CBSD.

Compulsive behaviour may often be triggered by Pavlovian cues. Assessing how cues drive instrumental in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is therefore crucial to understand compulsions develop and are maintained. An aversive Pavlovian-to-Instrumental transfer (PIT) paradigm, particularly one involving avoidance/cancellation of negative outcomes, can enable such investigation has not previously been studied clinical-OCD. Forty-one participants diagnosed with OCD (21 adults; 20 youths) 44 controls 23 completed an PIT task. Participants had prevent the delivery unpleasant noises moving a joystick correct direction. They could infer these responses learning appropriate response-outcome (instrumental) stimulus-outcome (Pavlovian) associations. We then assessed whether elicited specific avoidance (specific PIT) induced general (general PIT). investigated task confidence indices influenced strength differentially between groups. There was no overall group difference performance, although youths showed weaker than youth controls. However, urge avoid preference for safe over unsafe stimuli respectively OCD, while more learning. Thus, implicit motivational factors, but learnt knowledge, contribute successful integration This implies that compulsive driven automatic processes. Youths show deficits PIT, suggesting cue impairments only apparent adolescence. These findings clinically relevant as they emphasise importance targeting processes when treating OCD.

Abstract People often exhibit intertemporal impatience by choosing immediate small over delayed larger rewards, which has been implicated across maladaptive behaviours and mental health symptoms. In this preregistered study, we tested the role of an Pavlovian bias as possible psychological mechanism driving temptation posed rewards. Concretely, hypothesized that anticipation rewards (compared with preference-matched rewards) enhances goal-directed approach behaviour but interferes inhibition. Such a could contribute to difficulty inhibit ourselves in face (e.g., drug), at cost long-term health) goals. A sample 184 participants completed newly developed reinforcement learning go/no-go task four trial types: Go win reward; No-go reward trials. responding was increased trials available compared available. The Pavlovian-to-instrumental transfer (PIT) effect is a phenomenon that Pavlovian conditioned cues could influence one's instrumental behavior. In several substance and behavioral addictions, such as tobacco use disorder gambling disorder, addiction-related promote independently trained drug-seeking/drug-taking behaviors, indicating specific PIT effect. However, it unclear whether Internet gaming (IGD) would show similar change in effects other addictions. study aimed to explore the IGD. We administrated task individuals with IGD (n = 40) matched health controls (HCs, n 50), compared magnitude of between two groups. severity symptoms was assessed by Chinese version 9-item Gaming Disorder Scale (IGDS) Addiction Test (IAT). found that: (1) related HCs group, group showed enhanced PITgame effects, where gaming-related lead an increased choice rate responses; (2) were positively correlated IAT scores (rho 0.39, p 0.014). Individuals HCs, which associated addictive symptoms. Our results highlighted incentive salience

Abstract We often forego a larger future reward in order to obtain smaller immediately, known as impatient intertemporal choice. The current study investigated the role of Pavlovian-to-instrumental transfer (PIT) mechanism contributing choice, following theoretical framework proposing that cues associated with immediate gratification trigger Pavlovian approach response, interfering goal-directed (instrumental) inhibitory behavior. developed paradigm which participants first learned make instrumental go/no-go responses win rewards and avoid punishments. Next, they associations between varying amount delay. Finally, we tested whether these (task-irrelevant) exerted effects by influencing actions while again completed task. Across two experiments, (versus smaller) delayed) were evaluated more positively, reflecting successful acquisition cue–outcome associations. These findings replicated previously reported classical effect on behavior, large increased approach. In contrast, found no evidence for hypothesized delay, contrary proposed PIT results suggest although both delay important evaluation cues, only influenced provide concrete suggestions studies, addressing outcome identity, competition cue–amount cue–delay associations, individual differences response cues.
