Abstract Innovations in aligning investment with sustainability led to impact investing, enabling investors achieve conventional financial returns and measurable social environmental returns. Since its inception 2007, it has grown manifolds, significant efforts being made create a global ecosystem. However, due limited academic literature, the theme is yet garner scholarly interest deserves. In this study, we analyse visualise knowledge map of research field through comprehensive bibliometric analysis by employing corpus 421 studies sourced from Web Science Scopus. We identify growth trajectory, geographical concentration, productive influential authors, journals articles examine inter‐disciplinarity field. The major themes interlinked investing included; entrepreneurship, innovation, finance, market, innovative instruments, financialisation essential services reporting. To drive forward, future needs develop an ecosystem, address behavioural issues, stakeholder management institutional context theme, diffuse framework for standardised accounting reporting practices measure non‐financial dimensions, tackle washing fund managers, lack access third sector legal regulatory organisations.
