Research has demonstrated how the translation of a new management concept into organizational practices is impacted by translators’ engagement with their local context. We expand this literature demonstrating heterogeneous institutional context prompts translators to create practice change and also maintenance. Building upon an interpretive analytical framework we offer way forward examine relationships between societal institutions distributed collective work in processes. Our longitudinal qualitative study based interviews observations examines value-based healthcare was translated at hospital. The field of International Business (IB) has traditionally focused on the crossing national boundaries. In this Perspective, we argue that organizational, knowledge domain, and language boundaries are equally important for understanding translation activities in cross-border business. Demographic, technological, and global trends have brought the language used at workplace to forefront. This paper explores how the smart city idea unfolds in bureaucratic context. Applying a qualitative approach and Scandinavian stream of translation theory, we investigate case cities’ ‘smartification’ Russia during 2017–2020.
