Abstract Social psychology has focused on patterns of inequality (e.g., discrimination, stereotyping, stigma, intergroup relations) that underlie well‐documented disparities, often without engaging with the structural and intersectional underlying these experiences. In this paper, we draw intersectionality theory research to illustrate how approaches studying inequity disparities in social reflect a Western perspective, structures work uphold status quo. Abstract Background Increasing diversity has become a priority for all fields working with human subjects due to historic exclusions and misrepresentations of participants minoritized identities. To create more representative generalizable science alcohol use, the Research Society on Alcohol (RSA) its official journal, Alcohol: Clinical Experimental ( ACER ), have increasingly incorporated inclusion into their posted values programming.
