Cadmium (Cd) is an environmental toxicant of worldwide public health significance. Diet the main non-workplace Cd exposure source other than passive and active smoking. The intestinal absorption involves transporters for essential metals, notably iron zinc. These determine body burden because only a minuscule amount can be excreted each day. International Agency Research on Cancer listed as human lung carcinogen, but current evidence suggests that effects cancer risk extend beyond lung. A two-year bioassay demonstrated caused neoplasms in multiple tissues mice. Resistance cell death phenotypes acquired during Cd-induced transformation, under vitro conditions, are briefly discussed. potential role ZnT1 efflux transporter cellular acquisition tolerance cytotoxicity highlighted.

Diabetes and its complications are major diseases that affect human health. Diabetic cardiovascular such as (CVDs) the of diabetes, which associated with loss cells. Pathogenically role ferroptosis, an iron-dependent cell death, cuproptosis, a copper-dependent death has recently been receiving attention for pathogenesis diabetes complications. How exposure to environmental metals affects these two metal-dependent deaths in under diabetic nondiabetic conditions remains largely unknown. As omnipresent metal, cadmium can cause oxidative stress cardiomyocytes, leading iron accumulation, glutathione depletion, lipid peroxidation, finally exacerbate ferroptosis disrupt cardiac. Moreover, cadmium-induced hyperglycemia enhance circulation advanced glycation end products (AGEs). Excessive AGEs promote upregulation copper importer solute carrier family 31 member 1 through activating transcription factor 3/transcription PU.1, thereby increasing intracellular Cu

Soil contamination and degradation have prompted extensive research into remediation techniques. A promising approach involves the use of nanoparticles, which can mitigate heavy metal contamination, such as cadmium (Cd), without adversely affecting crop development. This study evaluated effects hydroxyapatite nanoparticles (HANPs) on growth Chenopodium quinoa Willd. in soils contaminated with varying Cd contents (0, 5, 10, 25, 50 mg/kg). The results indicated that HANPs enhanced early shoot development, particularly concentrations ≥10 mg/kg, while significantly reducing accumulation plant tissues. also decreased mobility soil, retaining it fractions less available for uptake. Germination rates differed between pot experiments phytotoxicity assays, although first demonstrated greater immobilization HANP-treated soils, resulting reduced translocation to shoots. These findings highlight potential an effective tool remediating Cd-contaminated thereby improving soil pollution, safety, quality human consumption.

Background Pancreatic cancer is one of the most lethal malignancies, characterized by a poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Increasing evidence suggests that environmental factors, including heavy metal exposure, play role in pancreatic development. Cadmium, toxic classified as Group 1 carcinogen, has been implicated progression. However, its association with remains uncertain, conflicting results from epidemiological studies. This systematic review meta-analysis aim to assess between cadmium exposure risk cancer. Methods A comprehensive literature search was conducted using multiple databases identify studies explored relationship risk. Eleven eligible were included meta-analysis. Pooled odds ratios (OR) 95% confidence intervals (CI) calculated estimate overall effect size. Heterogeneity assessed I², T², Cochran’s Q-test. Publication bias evaluated Egger’s Begg’s tests. Results The pooled analysis revealed significant cancer, an OR 2.01 (95% CI: 1.30, 2.72), indicating individuals exposed had more than twice developing compared those lower or no exposure. Substantial heterogeneity observed across (I² = 98.08%, T² 1.37, H² 52.21). Q-test also indicated (Q(10) 304.52, p 0.00). test (p 0.5040) 1.0000) showed publication bias. Conclusion demonstrates positive increased Despite considerable studies, findings suggest potential factor for Further research required explore underlying biological mechanisms develop strategies reducing particularly high-risk populations.

Background Capecitabine (CAPE), an antimetabolite chemotherapy, can induce hepatic and renal toxicity. Melatonin (MEL), a neurohormone, possesses antioxidant, anti-apoptotic anti-inflammatory effects. This study investigated the impact of MEL on capecitabine-induced Methods materials Twenty-five male Wistar rats were categorized into five groups for study. The included control group, MEL10 group (rats receiving daily intraperitoneal injections 5 mg/kg MEL), CAPE 500 weekly CAPE), + 10 group. All treated duration 6 weeks. Various hematological, serological, biochemical, histopathological assessments conducted to evaluate objective Results administration led significant liver kidney toxicity, as evidenced by elevated levels malondialdehyde (MDA), myeloperoxidase (MPO), nitric oxide (NO), well serological markers including AST, ALT, ALP, BUN, creatinine. exposure also resulted in reduction total antioxidant capacity (TAC) glutathione peroxidase (GPx) levels. Histological examination revealed hyperemia both tissues exposed CAPE. However, treatment with demonstrated positive alleviated oxidative stress, reduced enzymes, creatinine, ameliorated degenerations. increased GPx TAC Moreover, aided restoring body weight that was lost due exposure.
