Viruses are a frequent cause of self-limited diarrhea, with more severe outcomes in immunocompromised patients. This study aimed to compare the performance Real-Time RT-PCR chromatographic immunoassays (CIAs) for detecting major gastrointestinal viruses human stool. was conducted at University Hospital Split, Croatia, from October 2023 May 2024. Stool samples were simultaneously analyzed CIA (Acro Biotech Rotavirus and Adenovirus Combo Rapid Test Cassette, USA JusChek Norovirus China) (AccuPower Diarrhea V1&V2 RT-PCR, Bioneer, Republic Korea), according manufacturers’ instructions. Positive percent agreement (PPA), negative (NPA), overall (OPA) calculated. For norovirus, had low PPA (25%), indicating that it missed 75% norovirus-positive cases identified by RT-PCR. detection showed poor (PPA 0%; NPA 100%). presented relatively better 90.9% OPA 84.13%). However, presence false positives (15.8%) highlights need confirmatory testing. One specimen sapovirus-RT-PCR-positive, marking first documented case specimens Croatia. Although provided rapid results, limitations regarding reliability highlight value particularly ambiguous clinical antigenic test results newly emerged viruses. A two-step diagnostic approach, initial screening followed could balance cost-effectiveness accuracy.

Human enteric adenoviruses (HAdV-F40/41) play a crucial role as causative agents of acute gastroenteritis (AGE), particularly affecting children in low-and middle-income countries. This study investigated the prevalence, genetic diversity, and molecular characteristics HAdV-F40/41 AGE cases reported Brazil from 2021 to 2023, period after COVID-19 pandemic. A total 1980 stool samples collected medically attended patients nine states were analyzed by TaqMan-based qPCR. Overall, HAdV was detected 16.6% (n = 328/1980) cases, with highest prevalence observed under five years age. The positive genotyped through partial sequencing hexon and/or fiber genes followed phylogenetic analysis. Enteric HAdVs 3.2% 63/1980) samples, HAdV-F41 (44.1%) being most common genotype. Among non-enteric types, HAdV-C (29.4%) prevalent, HAdV-B (13.2%), HAdV-A (10.3%), HAdV-D (2.9%). Phylogenetic analysis (HVR1–HVR6) (Shaft) gene regions identified two major clusters, H-GTC1 F-GTC2, showing close relationships global strains. demonstrated significantly higher viral loads compared HAdVs. These findings highlight importance continued surveillance HAdV-F better understand its support public health strategies, including potential vaccine development.

Acute Infectious Diarrhea (AID) and the short- long-term complications associated with it are major causes of hospitalization worldwide. In Italy, due to a lack robust surveillance programs, only limited data has been collected on their prevalence circulation. This study aims evaluate resistance pattern enteric pathogens epidemiological trends over six-year period.

Infection is the cause of diarrhoea, and rotaviruses adenoviruses are important pathogens in children. A retrospective study was conducted on 144,067 children with diarrhoea between 2014 2023 China. We used colloidal gold method to detect intestinal adenovirus rotavirus antigens faeces. The epidemiological characteristics these viruses impact meteorological factors them were analysed before after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. During this decade, positive rate infection 6.41%, while 11.81%, higher than that infection. coinfection 1.92%. rates adenovirus, showed a fluctuating trend, suddenly decreased 2020. There an apparent decrease A, 57.27%, during 2020–2023. Surprisingly, exceeded 2021 2023. COVID-19 pandemic, proportion female patients over two years age infected or increased, cases winter decreased. In addition, we found related average temperature sunshine, only sunshine. However, correlations disappeared This revealed recent prevalence infections south-central China provided theoretical basis for prevention control viral diarrhoea.
