It is still unclear why the pineal gland not able to start its own pulsatile synthesis and secretion of melatonin in first months a human's life, so that infants during this time are dependent on external supply via breast milk, unpooled donor milk from collection centres or industrially produced chrononutrition with melatonin-poor day melatonin-rich night milk. According current knowledge, receptors already present at birth, suprachiasmatic nucleus largely functional noradrenaline, key transmitter, can be detected early foetal period. However, development differentiation gland, pinealocytes as site associated Lhx4 homebox only occurs year person's life. The resulting "physiological" deficiency sleep disorders, infant colic increased crying babies. Intervention studies indicate should compensated for – through breastfeeding, administration made cow's [1-3], see also Video [4].
