Quantitative research has demonstrated that many individuals with eating disorders (EDs) present PTSD (ED-PTSD). Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) been integrated into the overall treatment for ED-PTSD, but qualitative data on effectiveness of this approach is lacking. Ten patients ED-PTSD completed 12 sessions CPT during residential (RT). After 1 and 11, wrote an "impact statement" clarifying their beliefs about why trauma occurred how it impacted life. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), such as abuse, neglect, or household violence, have been identified significant risk factors for a multitude of physical and psychological conditions, motivating research to identify contributing mechanisms conditions. Introduction: Eating disorders are characterized by maladaptive eating behaviors and preoccupations around body shape, weight, eating. The serotonin system has been among the most widely studied neurobiological factors in relation to disorders. Recent research also highlighted role of oxytocin. Aims methods: This article aims review animal human studies on involvement central oxytocin, their interplay particular. We synthesize results from using models conducted healthy individuals clinical populations. Results/Outcomes: Altered neurotransmission oxytocin levels brain—particularly hypothalamus, brainstem, limbic regions—were associated with disturbances related cognitions emotions. These brain regions were found constitute a typical neural network through which both might operate bidirectional manner. Conclusions/Interpretation: Based preceding findings, we describe developmental biopsychosocial model relevant disorders, including serotonin–oxytocin interactions brain. While it is clear that multifactorial many pathways involved, current highlights importance well-designed translational when studying mechanisms Such would help better understand effects joint administration as possible preventive or therapeutic intervention for
