Abstract Background The studies of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) career interests have progressed substantially over the recent years. However, influence awareness on STEM is an area that requires further discussion. Evidently, Chinese adolescents limited interest in careers context cultural milieu, which can potentially constrain their future trajectories. This study explored high school students, examining mediating roles self-efficacy outcome expectations for courses this relationship. Additionally, it analyzes impact gender average levels interrelations these variables. A sample students from both eastern western regions China ( N = 2542) was selected, data analyzed using a structural equation modeling approach. Abstract Engineering is critical for socio-economic development, however only a few women participate in engineering education and careers. This study aimed to identify the types of negative information propagated by social networks students that could create barriers students, particularly women’s retention careers, assess whether they influence men differently. The was exploratory hence six focus group discussions were conducted with undergraduate their second, third, fourth years Ghanaian university.
