Biological pest control is an environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic pesticides, using organisms such as viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasitoids. However, efficacy variable combining different biocontrol agents could improve success rates. We conducted a systematic review of studies parasitoid with entomopathogenic microorganism, the first its kind. searched in Web Science extracted data from 49 publications matching pre-defined inclusion criteria. Combinations 36 hymenopteran parasitoids 17 microorganisms used 31 target pests were found. Trichogramma pretiosum Encarsia formosa most frequently studied parasitoids, while Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae, Lecanicillium muscarium, Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki, Spodoptera exigua multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus, frugiperda nucleopolyhedrovirus main microbial assessed. Out parasitoid–microorganism combinations assessed laboratory experiments, thirty-eight reported compatible six incompatible. Timing dosage biopesticides played crucial role, later application appropriate minimizing adverse effects on development. More research needed assess compatibility under real-world conditions. Our provides valuable insights for researchers practitioners optimize combined use micro- macroorganisms effective control.

Abstract The age-stage two-sex life table procedure can be conducted using a software package, TWOSEX-MSChart. Subsequent to the publication of this procedure, papers employing conventional “female cohort” procedures have been challenged by some journals, on grounds that “two sex” method is superior. Here, we assess validity female cohort tables random normal probability function evaluate 54 hypothetical cohorts, and 10 male ones, with different means variances developmental time, reproductive success, longevity. A number variables were examined for their effects behavior system, including type survivorship curve, stage structuring, primary secondary sex ratio, skewed or distribution reproduction protandrous versus protogenous emergence. Data analyzed both cohorts in latter analyses. results revealed no impact characters essential population growth parameters net replacement rate, intrinsic finite rates increase, generation doubling equation yielded exactly same outputs as This could imply Chi’s not fundamentally from but may include additional details meaningful effect analysis. We conclude more complex TWOSEX-MSChart considered an alternative method, rather than obligatory exist discrediting procedure.

Cyantraniliprole, a second-generation anthranilic diamide, is widely used to manage lepidopteran pests, including the invasive tomato pinworm Tuta absoluta (Meyrick). However, cyantraniliprole’s resistance mechanisms and associated fitness costs in T. remain underexplored. Here, we investigated of cyantraniliprole-resistant strain (CyanRS) via nanocarrier-mediated RNA interference (RNAi). Results showed that egg incubation period developmental durations larval pupal stages were significantly prolonged CyanRS population compared susceptible (SS). Further, adult emergence, longevities male female, fecundity, hatching rate reduced individuals. The mRNA expression levels cytochrome b5 reductase ( CYB5R ) P450 CYP9E2 analyzed using RT-qPCR explore their potential involvement cyantraniliprole . Phylogenetic motif analysis indicated evolutionary functional conservation with other insect species, especially Lepidopterans. Notably, nanocarrier-encapsulated dsRNA targeting genes levels. activity was substantially decreased after knockdown CYP92 genes. This increased susceptibility resistant cyantraniliprole, leading higher mortality than controls. These findings show might play key role evolution current study provides in-depth insights understand underlying this herbivore.

The entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana and the egg parasitoid Trichogramma dendrolimi can both contribute to biological control of global fruit borer Grapholita molesta. To derive insights for optimizing their combined application in augmentation programs, we assayed fungal pathogenicity G. molesta (eggs, larvae adults) adult parasitoids, assessed wasp acquisition transmission spores following emergence from B. bassiana-treated host eggs.Concentrations 108 conidia mL-1 higher caused virtually complete mortality larvae, but less than 30% eggs, female moths surviving treatments had reduced fecundity. More 80% T. survived 107 , more 60% 109 with females achieving reproductive success equivalent controls. Parasitoid preferred healthy eggs over bassiana-infected ones choice tests; wasps emerging treated carried about 104 each contributed an additional 11% trials combining agents. Our results indicate that applications have complimentary impacts on molesta, compensating low progeny potentially aiding subsequent disease transmission. Although foraging tended avoid infected negative interactions between two agents might be further mitigated by timing late instar larva early moth stage, releases several days later coincide peak oviposition periods. © 2022 Society Chemical Industry.

Chemical pesticides are largely applied worldwide for the control of agricultural pests, and often cause lethal sublethal side effects on natural enemies. To determine compatibility chemical pesticides, commonly used by maize growers, with Trichogramma ostriniae, toxicities four herbicides (pendimethalin, topramezone, glyphosate, atrazine), three insecticides (imidacloprid, emamectin benzoate, ethiofencarb), fungicides (propiconazole, benzoyl cyclazole, difenoconazole) were tested under laboratory conditions, measuring residual toxicity to T. ostriniae adults, their parasitoid's eggs inside host egg, reproduction female offspring. Three including ethiofencarb, cyclazole slightly harmful whereas other seven moderately harmful. The pesticide residues showed persistence in contrast remaining pesticides. Glyphosate, imidacloprid, propiconazole classified as harmless, causing < 30% reduction emergence rate wasps from eggs, while atrazine, pendimethalin, difenoconazole harmful, 31-52% parasitoid rates. Furthermore, number subsequently laid females that had emerged parasitized treated atrazine was significantly reduced compared which untreated eggs. No negative observed treatment rates F1 wasps, wing deformity sex ratios. data presented here indicate safety interval between applications releases is 2-3 weeks, provide valuable information designing a sound integrated pest management program combines augmentative wasps.

Given limited studies on effectiveness different bio-pesticides in India, objective research was determine pathogenicity commercial formulations Beauveria bassiana, Bacillus thuringiensis, and neem (Azadirachtin), T. absoluta, under laboratory field conditions. For thuringiensis formulations, Green Larvicide® Delfin® recorded an LC50 4.10 × 10⁹ CFU/mL 8.06 106 spores/mg, respectively, while for B. bassiana Beauveria® BB Power® were 4.473 107 spores/mL 1.367 CFU/g, respectively. Furthermore, results showed susceptibility both with Ecotin®, recording 91.866 ppm, Econeem Plus® 212.676 ppm. The from conditions at locations Andhra Pradesh, significant differences (p < 0.001) leaf fruit infestation among interaction effect treatments locations. Bio-pesticides, especially reduced similarly chemical treatment, without affecting yield. Therefore, can be considered as safe alternatives pesticides, absoluta.
