The electrocoagulation (EC) process introduces coagulants by electrochemical means, and is widely adopted for removing heavy metals, besides other contaminants, such as organic pollutants, suspended dissolved solids, colloidal materials, etc. However, its capability can vary significantly, depending on the operating conditions. Although most of investigations so far are limited at laboratory level with artificially prepared solutions or industrial effluent lacking full- field-scale studies, success depends a lot optimizing variable. It has been found that current density (typically 1–20 mA/cm2), type electrode (generally aluminum iron) minimum electrolysis time key parameters influence performance. Furthermore, mechanisms involved in EC process, including charge neutralization, reduction-oxidation precipitation/co-precipitation, crucial pollutant abatement. This review presents detailed study undertaking all significant play role mechanism, improving efficiency this optimization these parameters, along suitable kinetic models.

Coagulation is a vital stage in treating contaminated water using coagulants that can be either synthetic or natural. Currently, being treated by treatment plants use aluminum- iron-based salts and polymers for coagulation. However, these have flaws, including the production of large amounts chemical sludge, considerable effects on pH purified water, relatively expensive to use, potentially toxic environment. The potential constraints replacing with natural plant extracts are reviewed this paper. Various previously investigated removal heavy metals, turbidity, pathogens, other contaminants from surface were analyzed based dosage rates, active ingredients responsible coagulation, extraction methods among criteria. A comparative analysis was performed studies which both conventional used treatment. shown it possible replace plant-based extracts. It has been demonstrated because seed such as those fenugreek achieve turbidity efficiencies high 98% compared 85% alum. may beneficial they produce less sludge than coagulants; increases environmental sustainability while decreasing cost handling sludge. They do not pose any adverse threats environment; therefore, safer alternative. needed how commercialized same way readily available.

The sustainability of energy systems is increasingly assessed for development more resilient, greener district heating (DH) systems. That requires compiling technological, environmental, and economic indicators in a social, political, institutional context. This work investigates DH system analysis by five frequently applied multi-criteria decision (MCDA) methods—WSM, TOPSIS, PROMETHEE, ELECTRE DEA. To compare the assessment results, selection 8 criteria describing 12 companies (DHC) was examined. Sensitivity performed to determine most credible MCDA method. Criteria weights were changed: (1) individually evaluation range stability alternatives (score DHC performance); (2) fixed value how each criterion weight change affected average score result; (3) AHP weighting method an equal scenario. results sensitivity along with literature investigation shows that all methods are suitable analyses while also having differences calculation process interpretation results. generalized algorithm sector outlined this study documented features main can be used as guide future researchers industry professionals.

Purpose This paper explores how marine plastic waste management solutions can be holistically evaluated in alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 12 and 14. It aims to address the fragmentation existing literature by developing an integrated model for sustainability assessment that combines cost-benefit analysis (CBA) multi-criteria decision (MCDA). Design/methodology/approach Presenting interventionist case study, research examines a project aimed at collecting from sea constructing pyrolysis plant convert non-recyclable plastics into energy major Italian port. A multidimensional evaluation was developed through iterative stakeholder engagement, integrating financial non-financial criteria across economic, environmental, social dimensions assess investment. Data were gathered semi-structured interviews, document field observations. Findings The study introduces CBA–MCDA framework tailored complexities of sustainability-oriented investments. enables comprehensive infrastructure projects combining economic valuation participatory qualitative impacts. also strengthens targets SDGs SDG 14 incorporating related recovery, emissions reduction outcomes. Abstract This study explores the integration of sustainability in decision-making processes within a steel manufacturing company Poland. As global clients increasingly demand sustainable practices, companies must adapt their operations to meet these expectations. We applied Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) methods, specifically TOPSIS (Technique for Order Preference by Similarity an Ideal Solution) and VIKOR (in Serbian: VlseKriterijuska Optimizacija I Komoromisno Resenje), along with three weighting techniques, namely Entropy, Standard Deviation, CRITIC (Criteria Importance Through Inter-criteria Correlation), evaluate four products. Nine criteria were considered, including material type, corrosion protection, surface treatment, various processes. Our findings reveal that MCDA framework effectively ranks products from most least sustainable, highlighting importance raw efficiency waste management. research demonstrates practical application methods assessing industry, providing basis future studies extend this other sectors regions. Overall, approach supports informed decision-making, aligning broader goals while satisfying demands business partners clients.
