Abstract Background Quantitative sensory testing (QST) offers information regarding underlying mechanisms contributing to chronic pain (CP) in adults with musculoskeletal disorders. This review examined the use of QST measures CP following participation a combined exercise and psychological intervention. Methods The was conducted accordance PRISMA guidelines. Five databases were searched from inception November 2022. All study designs which evaluated effects treatment on nervous system sensitivity included. Results A total 13 studies met selection criteria, 10 included meta-analysis. Local pressure thresholds most frequently used measure ( n = 12 studies). Meta-analysis revealed statistically significantly improvements favour intervention group, compared control for local threshold [SMD 0.44, 95% CI 0.08–0.81, I 2 84%], intensity scores [SMD=-0.89, -1.66- -0.13, 94%] Central Sensitisation Inventory [SMD=-0.69, -1.37- -0.02, 87%]. There no significant differences found between groups remote thresholds, temporal summation or conditioned modulation. Conclusions results suggest that may lead greater threshold, when CP, however these findings must be interpreted caution as large degree heterogeneity present (I : 84–94%). Further large, longitudinal are required using standardised measurement procedures patient reported outcome explore changes sensitisation. Trial registration systematic is registered PROSPERO, ID Number CRD42022380464.
