Background: Mobile health (mHealth) applications play a crucial role in enhancing healthcare accessibility, patient engagement, and chronic disease management. However, technical, usability, privacy-related barriers continue to hinder their widespread adoption. The Sehaty app, government-managed mHealth platform Saudi Arabia, is widely used for scheduling medical appointments, accessing records, communicating with providers. Understanding the challenges associated its utilization essential optimizing functionality improving user experience. Aim: This study aims identify evaluate key affecting adoption usability of application among patients conditions Arabia. Specifically, it examines related technical performance, privacy, security impact on satisfaction engagement. Methods: A cross-sectional was conducted using structured questionnaire distributed 344 participants selected through purposive sampling ensure inclusion active users conditions. assessed 10 primary barriers, including issues, navigation difficulties, privacy concerns, accessibility limitations. Descriptive statistics correlation analyses were performed prevalence interrelationships these barriers. Results: findings indicate that frequent crashes, slow responsiveness, system instability, significantly satisfaction. Usability challenges, such as difficulties task completion, further impede Moreover, concerns emerged significant deterrents, expressing apprehensions about data safety transparency. Accessibility particularly older adults individuals disabilities, insufficient support training, making app less user-friendly populations. highlights interconnected nature suggesting improvements stability interface design could lead enhanced confidence, overall Conclusions: Addressing requires targeted enhancements, user-centered improvements, strengthened measures promote trust Additionally, implementing comprehensive systems features ensuring equitable access services. While study’s generalizability limited by focus single platform, offer valuable insights applicable broader initiatives. Future research should incorporate longitudinal studies assess long-term outcomes.

Background/Objectives: Smartphones, with their widespread popularity and diverse apps, have become essential in our daily lives, ongoing advancements information technology unlocked significant potential healthcare. Our goal is to identify the future research directions of mobile health (mHealth) by examining its trends emerging hotspots. Methods: This study collected mHealth-related literature published between 2005 2024 from Web Science database. We conducted a descriptive statistic annual publication count categorized data authors institutions. In addition, we developed visualization maps display frequency keyword co-occurrences. Furthermore, overlay visualizations were created showcase average year specific keywords, helping track changing mHealth over time. Results: Between 2024, total 6093 papers related published. The revealed rapid increase number publications since 2011. However, it was found that on has reached saturation point 2021. University California dominant force research, 248 articles. California, London, Harvard University, Duke are actively collaborating, which shows geographical pattern collaboration. From analysis co-occurrence timeline, focus gradually shifted solely technologies exploring how new technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI) can intervene patient conditions, including breast cancer, diabetes, other chronic diseases. Privacy protection policies transparency mechanisms emerged an active current development. Notably, cutting-edge Internet Things (IoT), blockchain, virtual reality (VR) being increasingly integrated into systems. These technological convergences likely constitute key priorities field, particularly addressing security vulnerabilities while enhancing service scalability. Conclusions: Although volume core declining, practical applications continue expand across domains, integrating multiple technologies. It believed still holds enormous potential.

et al.

Published: April 14, 2025

BACKGROUND The rapid growth of digital mental health tools offers accessible support for a growing global population with needs. However, concerns exist regarding their safety, efficacy, and overall quality, particularly used outside healthcare settings. lack regulation exacerbates these issues, existing quality assurance frameworks are limited in scope not specific to health, failing address crucial aspects such as user experience evidence-based practices. OBJECTIVE This study aims develop novel, comprehensive, pragmatic framework specifically tailored – the Mental Technology Assessment Quality (MTAQ). METHODS A convergent mixed-methods design was employed framework. Participants included service users, academic professionals, provision experts. Quantitative survey data (N=309) were collected then analysed descriptively evaluate stakeholder priorities across three domains: experience, data, evidence. gathered broad insights into relative value various factors, supplemented by qualitative from focus groups interviews (N=101), which provided richer perspectives relation initial, literature-derived domains. thematically using deductive approach. RESULTS found that intuitive, accessible, user-centred design; robust privacy security measures; rigorous evidence important consider when assessing tools. These led development MTAQ, covering key domains structured assessment process. CONCLUSIONS MTAQ provides first comprehensive criteria By aligning research evidence, input, clinical perspectives, this pragmatic, user-informed standard has application improving design, assessment, trustworthiness rapidly evolving field.
