Cultivated
crustacean
meat
(CCM)
is
a
means
to
create
highly
valued
shrimp,
lobster,
and
crab
products
directly
from
stem
cells,
thus
removing
the
need
farm
or
fish
live
animals.
Conventional
enterprises
face
increasing
pressures
in
managing
overfishing,
pollution,
warming
climate,
so
CCM
may
provide
way
ensure
sufficient
supply
as
global
demand
for
these
grows.
To
support
development
of
CCM,
this
review
briefly
details
cell
culture
work
date,
before
addressing
what
presently
known
about
muscle
development,
particularly
molecular
mechanisms
involved,
how
might

recent

ABSTRACT
Exoskeletons
are
a
defining
character
of
all
arthropods
that
provide
physical
support
for
their
segmented
bodies
and
appendages
as
well
protection
from
the
environment
predation.
This
ubiquitous
yet
evolutionarily
variable
feature
has
been
instrumental
in
facilitating
adoption
variety
lifestyles
exploitation
ecological
niches
across
environments.
Throughout
radiation
produced
more
than
one
million
described
modern
species,
adaptability
afforded
by
segmentation
exoskeletons
led
to
diversity
is
unrivalled
amongst
animals.
However,
because
limited
extensibility
exoskeleton
chitin
cuticle
components,
they
must
be
periodically
shed
replaced
with
new
larger
ones,
notably
accommodate
growing
individuals
encased
within.
Therefore,

demand

unsustainable
production
methods,
cultivated
crustacean
meat
(CCM)
is
proposed
as
an
alternative
means
to
produce
delicious
lobster,
shrimp,
crab
products.
Cultivated
requires
starting
stem
cells
that
may
vary
in
terms

proliferate

differentiate
into
myogenic
(muscle-related)
tissues.
Recognizing
regenerating

non-lethal
