The neuropeptides arginine vasopressin (AVP) and oxytocin (OXT) are key regulators of social behaviour across vertebrates. However, much our understanding how these neuropeptide systems interact with is centred around laboratory studies which fail to capture the physiological challenges living in wild. To evaluate relationships between wild, we studied groups cichlid fish Neolamprologus pulcher Lake Tanganyika, Africa. We first used SCUBA observe focal group members then measured transcript abundance components AVP OXT different brain regions. While often associated male-typical behaviours, found that dominant females had higher expression avp its receptor (avpr1a2) preoptic area compared either males or subordinates sex. Dominant also generally highest levels leucyl-cystinyl aminopeptidase (lnpep)-which inactivates OXT-throughout brain, potentially indicating greater overall activity (i.e., production, release, turnover) system females. Expression receptors did not differ ranks. visited brood chamber more lower a (oxtra) suggesting negative relationship signalling parental care this species. Overall, results advance complex behaviours neuroendocrine under natural settings.

Methylene blue (MB) is an antifungal agent widely used during critical stages of zebrafish development. Most guidelines recommend 0.00005% or 0.0001% MB for embryo/larval rearing. The Organisation Economic Co-operation and Development embryo toxicity test guideline omits recommendations, leading to inconsistent use in research. Because affects oxidative energy metabolism vitro vivo, we investigate possible metabolic effects recommended concentrations developing (1–5 days post-fertilization (dpf)). increases O2 consumption rate at 1 dpf, followed by overall reduction post-hatch eleutheroembryos (4–5 dpf). Concomitantly, mitochondrial transcripts decrease 4 dpf zebrafish. Our findings show that MB, husbandry concentrations, can thus confound experiments. Since the model gaining traction as a high-throughput New Approach Methodology (NAM) assessment, researchers should reconsider use. Blue additive medium. At it exerts acute effects. In zebrafish, estrogens produced in the ovaries via Cyp19a1a activity are required for both sexual differentiation of ovary during early development as well maintenance ovarian state adulthood. The importance Cyp19a1b that is highly expressed brain female reproduction still under study. We previously reported cyp19a1b -/- mutant zebrafish have significantly lower estradiol levels and impaired spawning behavior characterized by an increased latency to oviposition dyadic encounters. current study, we provide evidence delayed mutants linked arginine vasopressin (Avp) signaling. Droplet digital PCR experiments revealed estrogen receptors, avp , oxytocin ( oxt ) hypothalamus females compared wildtype fish. then used acute intraperitoneal injections Avp Oxt, along with mixtures their respective receptor antagonists, determine can uniquely rescue mutants. Using immunohistochemistry, demonstrated Cyp19a1b-expressing radial glial cell (RGC) fibers surround contact Avp-immunopositive neurons preoptic areas brain. This could neuroanatomical proximity RGC-derived diffuse activate receptors regulate expression levels. Together these findings identify a positive link between behavior. They also suggest behavioral phenotype likely consequence processing Avp-dependent social cues important mate identification assessment.

Aquaculture supplies the world food market with a significant amount of valuable protein. Highly productive aquaculture fishes can be derived by utilizing genome-editing methods, and main problem is to choose target gene obtain desirable phenotype. This paper presents review studies genome editing for genes controlling body development, growth, pigmentation sex determination in five key Salmonidae Cyprinidae species, such as rainbow trout (Onchorhynchus mykiss), Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), common carp (Cyprinus carpio), goldfish (Carassius auratus), Gibel gibelio) model fish zebrafish (Danio rerio). Among studied, most applicable are mstnba, pomc, acvr2, knockout which leads enhanced muscle growth; runx2b, mutants do not form bones myoseptae; lepr, whose lack function makes fast-growing; fads2, Δ6abc/5Mt, Δ6bcMt, affecting composition fatty acids meat; dnd mettl3, wnt4a, sterile; disease-susceptibility prmt7, gab3, gcJAM-A, cxcr3.2. Schemes obtaining populations consisting only large females promising use aquaculture. The immobilized uncolored line interest laboratory use.

The neuropeptide vasopressin is known for its regulation of osmotic balance in mammals. Arginine vasotocin (AVT) a non-mammalian homolog this that present fish. Limited information suggested and homologs may also influence reproductive function. In the study, we investigated direct effect AVT on spermatogenesis, using zebrafish as model organism. Results demonstrate receptors (avpr1aa, avpr2aa, avpr1ab, avpr2ab, avpr2l) are expressed brain testes. action spermatogenesis was an ex vivo culture mature testes 7 days. Using histological, morphometric, biochemical approaches, observed actions testicular treatment directly increased number spermatozoa androgen-dependent manner, while reducing mitotic cells proliferation activity type B spermatogonia. stimulatory spermiogenesis blocked by flutamide, androgen receptor antagonist. results support novel hypothesis stimulates short-term spermiogenesis. However, prolonged presence lead to diminished spermatogonia B, resulting turnover spermatogonia, spermatids, spermatozoa. overall findings offer insight into physiological significance vertebrates contributing factor multifactorial male reproduction.
