Purpose This study aims to evaluate the efficiency performance of Organization Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries in promoting renewable energy development based on income level and region from 2012 2021, identifying key factors that contribute their success or hinder progress. Design/methodology/approach The research uses data envelopment analysis (DEA) measure adoption. Input variables include labor force, gross domestic product export-to-import ratio, whereas output are energy’s share total final consumption installed electricity per capita for solar energy. Findings Significant variations across OIC regions were identified. South Asia ranked highest (0.899), followed by GCC nations (0.865), while Southeast showed lowest (0.585). High-income demonstrated superior (0.854), with Qatar having score (0.999), middle-income lagged (0.481). Countries like Algeria, Comoros Indonesia found be inefficient, considerable potential improvement. Inefficiencies attributed such as insufficient distribution underutilized outputs. Research limitations/implications is limited its focus certain economic factors, excluding considerations storage, grid capacity technological innovation. In addition, geopolitical may affect policy not addressed. Practical implications provides actionable insights policymakers, emphasizing need increased investment infrastructure, regulatory frameworks feed-in tariffs workforce realignment support green transitions. Specific recommendations rural electrification financial off-grid systems, particularly low-efficiency Bangladesh. Originality/value contributes understanding how regional influence countries, providing critical guidance policymakers investors improving sustainability.

In response to the urgent need for sustainable and resilient energy solutions, Hybrid Renewable Energy Systems (HRES) offer a promising alternative single-source systems, providing safer more cost-effective power generation. This study assesses efficiency cost-effectiveness of hybrid renewable system without storage, concentrating on energy, economic, environmental performance, in urban settings where surplus electricity can be sold back utility grid. Four scenarios were evaluated using HOMER Pro software determine most efficient configuration. The analysis identified optimal setup as PV/wind/DG/grid storage. configuration achieves cost (COE) $0.0172/kWh, return investment (ROI) 8.8 %, payback period 7.64 years. includes 117 kW solar PV, 6 wind capacity, 25-kW diesel generator backup, minimal grid reliance, resulting 94.8 % penetration annual CO2 emissions just 7,460 kg. Sensitivity indicates that increased resources reduce costs, while higher loads temperatures drive costs up. demonstrates feasibility reliable, battery storage campuses, showcasing significant economic benefits.
