Abstract In contrast to traditional perspectives of resilience as a stable, trait-like characteristic, is now recognized multidimentional, dynamic capacity influenced by life-long interactions between internal and environmental resources. We review psychosocial neurobiological factors associated with late-life depression (LLD). Recent research has identified both characteristics elevated LLD risk (e.g., insecure attachment, neuroticism) processes that may be useful intervention targets self-efficacy, sense purpose, coping behaviors, social support). Psychobiological include variety endocrine, genetic, inflammatory, metabolic, neural, cardiovascular bidirectionally interact affect for onset course illness. Several resilience-enhancing modalities show promise the prevention treatment LLD, including cognitive/psychological or mind–body (positive psychology; psychotherapy; heart rate variability biofeedback; meditation), movement-based (aerobic exercise; yoga; tai chi), biological approaches (pharmacotherapy, electroconvulsive therapy). Additional needed further elucidate LLD. addition, identify psychobiological predicting differential response various interventions will essential development more individualized effective

Abstract Recent conceptualisations of resilience have advanced the notion that it is a dynamic and multifaceted construct. However, its adaptive components, especially those forged by adversity, not been fully realised, neurobiological psychosocial underpinnings are yet to be meaningfully integrated. In part, this because developmental perspective often neglected in formulation resilience. review, we consider findings research, with specific emphasis on period adolescence. To bridge gaps our current understanding, propose model predicated experiencing adversity. Specifically, provides sophisticated insight into components resilience, which, together intrinsic features, involves facilitation of, skill acquisition via strengthening processes term tempering fortification. Geroscience offers a counterpoint to the challenged pursuit of curing diseases aging, by focusing on slowing biological aging process for extended healthspan earlier in life. Remarkable progress has led this field toward animal trials and next challenge lies with translation humans. There is an emerging number small human that can take advantage new models integrating behavioral social factors. Understanding dynamic mechanisms, given powerful determinants (Crimmins, 2020) variability environmental contexts (Moffitt, 2020), will be critical. Behavioral factors are intrinsic aging. Toxic stressors broadly defined lead stress-acceleration either directly impacting processes or shaping poor health, underlie socioeconomic disparities In contrast, hormetic stressors, acute intermittent moderate intensity, produce stress resilience, ability quick recovery possibly rejuvenation cells tissues. Although health research usually examines static biomarkers, reflected recover from challenges pointing interventions targets examining mechanisms. A fuller model incorporating resilience provides innovative biobehavioral interventions, both bolstering response challenges, such as COVID-19, improving healthspan.

The functions of both the central and peripheral autonomic nervous system, indexed by heart rate variability (HRV), are affected psychology physiology. This review summarizes results studies comparing evaluation HRV parameters between individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) healthy controls.Eligible (n=499) were identified through literature searches EMBASE, Medline, PubMed Web Science databases. Nineteen met our inclusion criteria. A random effects model was used, standardized mean differences for highfrequency HRV(HF-HRV), low-frequency HRV(LF-HRV) root square successive R-R interval (RMSSD) calculated.Significant found HF-HRV [p<0.0001, Z=4.18; Hedges'g=-1.58, 95% confidence (CI) (-2.32, -0.84); k=14] RMSSD [p<0.00001, Z=4.80; Hedges'g=-1.96, CI (-2.76, -1.16); k=9] relative to controls. Considerable heterogeneity revealed, but main robust in subsequent meta-regression subgroup analyses.Given relationships among low vagal state, inflammation, alterations brain structure function, including executive function emotion regulation, reduced may be regarded as an endophenotype PTSD research.

Resilience, the ability to overcome adversity and face stressful demands experiences, has been strongly associated with successful aging, a low risk of diseases high mental physical functioning. This relationship could be based on adaptive coping behaviors, but more research is needed gain knowledge about strategies employed confront social stress. Thus, we aimed investigate role use active or passive by resilient people in dealing situations. For this purpose, measured resilience, strategies, perceived stress 66 healthy older adults (31 men 35 women) between 56 75 years old who were exposed (Trier Social Stress Test, TSST) control situation. The response was analyzed at endocrine (cortisol) psychological (anxiety) levels. In condition, moderated mediation analysis showed conditional indirect effect resilience cortisol reactivity through coping. However, did not mediate resilience-cortisol relationship. addition, neither nor mediated anxiety response. These results suggest that which turn explain, least part, individual differences psychosocial laboratory stressor. factors may prevent development stress-related pathologies aging facilitate satisfactory aging.
