Background Cholecystectomy is a common procedure for treating gallbladder diseases such as cholecystitis and cholelithiasis. Potential complications include bile leakage, infection, bleeding, duct injury, residual stones, which can significantly affect recovery, quality of life, overall health. Research on these postoperative has gained increasing attention in recent years. Objective This study aims to systematically review international literature cholecystectomy published between 2004 2023. The goal explore current research trends, hotspots, developments, providing valuable insights preventing managing complications. Results A total 6,890 articles were retrieved from the WoS database, including 6,173 original papers 717 reviews. publication volume steadily increased over past 20 top three countries are U.S., China, Italy. Sandblom G most prolific author, Harvard University cited institution. highest publications Surgery field, with Surgical Endoscopy Other Interventional Techniques being leading journal. Recent hotspots safety, delayed cholecystectomy, guidelines, Conclusion bibliometric analysis highlights steady growth since 2004, focusing complication management, prevention, laparoscopic risks. Future should prioritize improving surgical developing strategies, creating clinical guidelines support ongoing advancements field.
