Purpose This study aims to examine the association between self-control, family practices and delinquent behaviors among Brazilian adolescents using a person-centered approach. Design/methodology/approach Following International Self-Reported Delinquency Study standardized protocol, data came from 1,909 13 17 years (female = 49.6%, male 48.3%, non-binary 2.1% mean age 15) attending public private schools of two cities in state São Paulo, Brazil. Participants were grouped according their scores impulsivity sensation-seeking. Clusters characterized compared regarding sociodemographic variables, aspects (family bond parental monitoring) self-reported delinquency. Findings Analysis resulted four groups by: low sensation-seeking (High Self-controlled; n 564), high (Low 378), (Impulsives; 452) (Sensation-seekers; 475). High Self-controlled scored higher bonding monitoring than other three groups. Low reported highest offense rates, followed by Sensation-seekers, who more Impulsives. Based on the dual system model, this event‐related potential study examined whether and how of a peer displayed preference for risky behavior would increase adolescents' by disrupting their cognitive control processes either emotional or non‐emotional contexts. A sample 106 adolescents (17–19 years age) completed two Stoop tasks Balloon Analog Risk Task under three conditions.
