Emerging evidence suggests that microbiome-targeted approaches may provide a novel opportunity to reduce the incidence of reproductive failures in cattle. To develop such microbiome-based strategies, one first logical steps is identify microbiome features related fertility and isolate fertility-associated microbial species for developing future bacterial consortium could be administered before breeding enhance pregnancy outcomes. Here, we characterized vaginal uterine microbiota beef cattle became pregnant or remained open via artificial insemination identified associated with fertility. We compared similarities between heifers cows. Using culturing, provided new insights into culturable fraction their antimicrobial resistance. Overall, our findings will serve as an important basis research aimed at harnessing improved

Introduction Numerous factors are known to influence reproductive efficiency in ewes, but few studies have investigated the potential role of vaginal microbiota sheep success. The objective this study was thoroughly characterize ewe throughout course pregnancy. Methods Vaginal samples were collected from 31 pregnant Hampshire and X Suffolk crossbred ewes on a weekly basis pre-breeding pregnancy testing then biweekly until just after lambing. To microbial communities, DNA extracted 16S rRNA gene Illumina MiSeq amplicon sequencing performed. Results Discussion Alpha diversity metrics indicated an increase species richness, evenness, overall gestation. Distinct shifts bacterial communities observed during gestation segregated into three periods: early gestation, transitional period mid/late During Actinobacillus , Histophilus, unclassified Leptotrichiaceae found greater relative abundance. period, population shift occurred characterized by increasing abundance Streptococcus Staphylococcus . Ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) are produced during digestion in the human gut, yet impact of these internally generated gases on male reproduction have received limited attention scientific research. We systematically reviewed 935 publications, spanning from 1947 to 2023, focusing external or internal NH3 and/or H2S, infertility, gut microbiota. Meta-analysis was conducted evaluate summary relative risk (RR) 95% confidence intervals (CIs) combined studies. Our findings revealed that H2S were negatively related Lactobacillus, which is beneficial fertility, whereas positively Bacteroides, showed negative effects fertility. The meta-analysis comparing Lactobacillus Bacteroides levels with statistically significant results (p<0.001). first confirm facts explored potential existence a microbiota-inner gases-male fertility axis gut.

Investigating the livestock vaginal microbiota is of increasing interest due to its relationship with animal reproductive performance. Recent publications have uncovered a high degree variability microbiota, making it difficult focus functional research on individual microorganisms. To address this variability, we conducted combined analysis publicly available 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing datasets reveal core in cattle, sheep, and pigs. The goal was identify bacterial genera that were shared despite diverse overall sample population. A total 2,911 samples (715 964 1,232 pigs) from 29 different used analysis. Beta diversity revealed structural differences between species. Compositionally, most abundant phyla Bacillota , Pseudomonadota Bacteroidota. At genus level, an unclassified Pasteurellaceae genus, Ureaplasma Streptococcus abundant. Across species, compositional observed. cattle sheep contained higher abundance Histophilus whereas pig more Fusobacterium Parvimonas than other samples. Among 120 OTUs 82 present 70% same threshold, had 40 63 genera, while 22 50 genera. There 19 overlapping across three largely species-specific, although there eight OTUs. These included (OTU 21), Clostridium sensu stricto 1 18), Corynebacterium 6), which also some members microbiota. better understanding required for future studies aimed at elucidation significance microbes respect efficiency. identified will help guide mechanisms/pathways through organisms enhance or impede

Graphical abstract Abstract Milk is an ancient, fundamental mammalian adaptation that provides nutrition and biochemical communication to offspring. Microbiomes have been detected in milk of all species studied date. In this review, we discuss: (a) routes by which microbes may enter milk; (b) evidence for proposed microbiome adaptive functions; (c) variation microbiomes across mammals; (d) future research directions, including suggestions how address outstanding questions on the viability functionality microbiomes. be sourced from maternal gastrointestinal tract, oral, skin, mammary gland neonatal oral skin Given variety microbial sources, stochastic processes strongly influence assembly, but appear influenced evolutionary history, diet, environment, nutrients. colonize intestinal tract produce gene metabolic products physiology, metabolism, immune system development. This descriptive cross-sectional study compared the microbiota of uterus, vagina, clitoral fossa (CF), and perineal skin in healthy maiden mares during estrus. Twelve synchronized, (3–4 years old) from one single recipient mare herd were included. Microbial communities characterized by amplifying V3–V4 region 16S rRNA gene using Illumina MiSeq platform. The uterine vaginal had significantly lower richness (Chao-1) than (p < 0.05). vagina bacterial composition was similar presence abundance could be differentiated that CF skin. microbial (Jaccard Bray–Curtis distances) differed across body-site locations 0.05), which explained approximately 14% 19% variation for Jaccard distances, respectively.
