Biomass derived from green marine macroalgae Ulva sp. is considered a rich source of bioactive compounds. In the present study, we demonstrate increased bioactivity phenolic-rich extract Ulva intestinalis after its treatment with fungal laccases Trametes versicolor and Agaricus bisporus. The phenolic composition extract, before enzymatic treatment, was determined through several analytical methods. Furthermore, antioxidant, enzyme-inhibitory, antimicrobial cytotoxic activity enzymatically modified non-modified extracts comparatively investigated. Depending on laccase used, enzyme-modified exhibited different content enhanced bioactivities compared to non-treated ones. presented antimicrobial, anti-lipoxygenase anti-collagenase activities, mild cytotoxicity. These results indicate that proposed biocatalytic process could be applied produce macroalgal natural paving way for their implementation in food, pharmaceutical, cosmeceutical industries.

Green seaweed is currently underused compared with other major types. Many scientists have reported applications of the green Ulva in various fields recent years, which makes it a candidate for biomass production industrial biorefineries. contains unique polysaccharide called ulvan, being considered medicinal and pharmacological applications. Ulvan sulfated including rhamnose glucuronic acid residues, has range bioactivities, immunomodulatory, antimicrobial, anticoagulant properties. The biocompatibility ulvan versatile biomaterial design. This review presents an in-depth analysis potential starting extraction methods structural/biological characterization moving on to We also highlight advantages over traditional polysaccharides such as agar, carrageenan, alginate.

C. vulgaris microalgae biomass was employed for the extraction of valuable bioactive compounds with deep eutectic-based solvents (DESs). Particularly, Choline Chloride (ChCl) based DESs, ChCl:1,2 butanediol (1:4), ChCl:ethylene glycol (1:2), and ChCl:glycerol (1:2) mixed water at 70/30 w/w ratio were used that purpose. The extracts’ total carotenoid (TCC) phenolic contents (TPC), as well their antioxidant activity (IC50), determined within process identification most efficient solvent. This screening procedure revealed (1:4)/H2O compelling solvent; thus, it thereafter optimization. Three parameters, i.e., solvent-to-biomass ratio, temperature, time studied regarding impact on extract’s TCC, TPC, IC50. For experimental design optimization, statistical tool Response Surface Methodology used. resulting models’ predictive capacity confirmed experimentally by carrying out two additional extractions under conditions different from design.
