Monitoring of lactate is spreading from the evident clinical environment, where its role as a biomarker notorious, to agrifood ambit well. In former, concentration can serve useful indicator several diseases (e.g., tumour development and lactic acidosis) relevant value in sports performance for athletes, among others. latter, spotlight placed on food control, bringing table meaningful information such decaying product detection stress monitoring species. No matter what purpose involved, electrochemical (bio)sensors stand solid suitable choice. However, time being, this statement seems be true only discrete measurements. The reality exposes that real continuous still troublesome goal. review, critical overview situations performed. We examined a series of commercially available screen-printed electrodes (SPEs) for their suitability electrochemical and electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) detection systems. Using cyclic voltammetry with both homogeneous solution-based heterogeneous bead-based ECL assay format, the most intense signals were observed from unmodified carbon-based SPEs. Three varieties tested, Zensor outperforming DropSens Kanichi in terms sensitivity. The incorporation nanomaterials electrode did not significantly enhance intensity under conditions used this evaluation (such as gold nanoparticles 19%, carbon nanotubes 45%, nanofibers 21%, graphene 48%, ordered mesoporous 21% compared to electrode). Platinum SPEs exhibited poor relative intensities (16% 10%) when carbonaceous materials, due high rates surface oxide formation inefficient oxidation tri- n -propylamine (TPrA). However, signal at platinum can be increased ∼3-fold addition surfactant, which enhanced TPrA increasing hydrophobicity surface. Our results also demonstrate that each SPE should only once, we significant change over repeated CV scans cannot mechanically polished refresh
