The
literature
provides
empirical
evidence
that
family
economic
hardship
can
increase
the
likelihood
of
adolescents
engaging
in
non-suicidal
self-injury
(NSSI).
However,
mechanisms
underlying
this
relationship
remain
unclear.
Guided
by
risky
families
model,
study
aimed
to
investigate
whether
relative
deprivation
mediates
link
between
and
adolescent
NSSI,
self-esteem
moderates
indirect
link.
A
combined
673
(45.9%
female;

12.81
years)
completed
measures
hardship,
deprivation,
self-esteem,
NSSI.
results
verified
mediated
positive
