In this work, we report some surprisingly interesting results in our pursuit to improve the photoluminescent emission of Carbon Dots (CDs) prepared from various precursors. By simply replacing regular water with deuterium oxide (D2O) as a dispersion medium, intensity and subsequent quantum efficiency radiative processes could be markedly enhanced. The present study was performed on previous reported works related CDs; each case, preparation path maintained accordingly. For type CD, absolute photoluminescence yield (PLQY) were highly improved, with, certain cases, more-than-doubled values being recorded gain performance easily noticeable naked eye even plain daylight. CD dispersed heavy water, respectively, properties thoroughly investigated through Steady State, lifetime, PLQY. To further elucidate mechanism involved enhancement, samples D2O H2O CDs embedded crosslinked Poly(acrylic acid) polymer matrix. investigations revealed major influence medium over PL CDs.
