Septic shock caused by postpartum acute pancreatitis, a case report and literature review

Abstract
Introduction
Postpartum
acute
pancreatitis
(PAP)
is
a
rare
but
potentially
life-threatening
condition
that
can
occur
following
childbirth.
The
incidence
of
PAP
estimated
to
be
between
1
in
1,000
and
10,000
deliveries,
with
significant
proportion
cases
linked
biliary
causes,
particularly
gallstones
sludge.
Prompt
diagnosis
comprehensive
management
are
essential
prevent
severe
complications
such
as
septic
shock
peritonitis.
Case
presentation
We
report
the
case
25-year-old
white
woman
who
presented
abdominal
pain
18
days
after
cesarean
section.
Initial
included
aggressive
fluid
resuscitation,
broad-spectrum
antibiotics,
control.
Diagnostic
imaging
laboratory
tests
confirmed
presence
obstruction
due
sludge,
leading
pancreatitis.
An
endoscopic
retrograde
cholangiopancreatography
(ERCP)
was
performed
remove
obstructions,
followed
by
laparoscopic
cholecystectomy
recurrence.
Discussion
PAP,
while
rare,
poses
risks
lead
serious
side
effects
shock.
Early
workup
essential.
In
this
instance,
sludge
were
found
culprit,
requiring
ERCP.
ERCP
effective
patient,
despite
its
controversy
patients.
requires
multidisciplinary
approach
involving
obstetricians,
gastroenterologists,
surgeons,
critical
care
specialists.
Conclusion
must
identified
treated
soon
possible.
Bile

problem
