The dynamic evolution of photogrammetry led to the development numerous methods geometric calibration cameras, which are mostly based on building flat targets (fields) with features that can be distinguished in images. Geometric thermal cameras for UAVs is an active research field attracts researchers. As a result their low price and general availability, non-metric being increasingly used measurement purposes. Apart from resolution, sensors do not have any other known parameters. commonly applied process self-calibration, enables determining approximate elements camera's interior orientation. purpose this work was analyze possibilities UAV using proposed test patterns materials. experiment conducted FLIR VUE PRO camera dedicated platforms. authors propose selection various image processing (histogram equalization, thresholding, brightness correction) order improve quality thermograms. consecutive resulted over 80% effectiveness average by 94%, 81%, 80 %, respectively. Aerial drone systems are now widely used to survey wildlife, but validation in the detectability of individuals is rarely assessed. This knowledge gap critical, given influence local environments on wildlife from air. In this study, we integrated Animal Biotelemetry technology with aerial drones evaluate temporal and environmental factors influencing animal detection probability subsequent population estimates. Wild-caught feral pigs (Sus scrofa) were fitted GPS tracking collars releasing them into a large natural habitat enclosure northern Australia. Utilizing fixed-wing equipped dual camera (thermal infrared RGB), conducted multiple flights over study area during both wet dry seasons, sunrise sunset. The found that pig was visible imagery highly variable depending timing survey. Detection at its lowest mid-afternoon (5 20%), while early evening yielded highest (50 75%). We observed seasonal differences, probabilities exceeding 50% mornings season, contrast less than 30% season. Temporal trends similar thermal RGB imagery. location data enabled us assess how localized (canopy cover, land ambient temperature) altered probability. information facilitated identification times maximize development correction factor account for non-detected specific locations. demonstrates value integrating variations when undertaking surveys. Insights gained approach have implications enhancing accuracy assessments contributing more effective management conservation.

Drone technology plays a critical role in supporting conservation efforts for endangered species, not only terms of species monitoring within various landscapes, but also potentially when applied to behavioral studies investigate interaction patterns and response environmental change. We tested thermal drone thermoregulation surface temperature wild Sumatran elephants the lowland tropical forest Jambi, Indonesia. Thermoregulation data was obtained using RGB images videos, while values were measured from (R-JPEG) extracted into TIFF equipped with pixel temperature. detected visual mechanism known as mud bathing. Our study demonstrated that trunk functions draw throw it onto head, back, stomach, tail distribute all parts back body, ears flapped keep head cool. measurements showed is between 28.9-30.3°C. The had relatively lower than other body parts. This revealed humidity variable significantly affects elephant's rise. use future recommended accurately provides high quality can be widely used any type terrain.

Recent technological innovations have led to an upsurge in the availability of unmanned aerial vehicles (also known as drones and hereafter referred UAVs)—aircraft remotely operated from ground—which are increasingly popular tools for ecological research, question this study concerns extent which wildlife responses might allow monitoring (AWM) by UAVs. Our experiment tests hypothesis that wildlife-UAVs interaction depends strongly on flight altitude there may be a lowest range ungulates not exceedingly disturbed, dictating practically achievable level discernibility observation, influence future viability UAVs protection other China’s semiarid ecosystem. We examined behavioral group enclosed Przewalski’s horses (Equus ferus przewalskii) presence different in-flight models conducting flights at altitudes ranging 1 52 meters recorded heights each horse reacted (noticed fled) All exhibited stress response evidenced running away. The results suggest strong correlations between across subjects adults generally noticed larger (20.58 ± 10.46 m) than immature (4.67 0.87 m). Meanwhile, reaction females (15.85 6.01 smaller males (26.85 18.52 Supported their biological roles herds (e.g., must give his entire herd while purely responsible offspring), our also show age, closely followed gender, two most significant elements determine horse’s alertness This research will help scientists better gauge appropriate height use drone animal observation order minimize disturbance best preserve natural behavior.
