Different infrared (IR) planar geometric calibration targets have been developed over the years that exploit a well-established and flexible optical camera procedure following pinhole approximation. This is typically neglected in IR cameras, due to relatively low resolution of thermal images complex needed for comparison targets. In this study, thorough literature review numerous targets, along with their respective outcomes, were summarized leveraged deliver practical checkerboard target less experienced end users, while offering lowest reprojection errors. It was concluded fabrication high emissivity contrast precise square points intersection within pattern extends accuracy capturing these control image an optimized calibration. Accordingly, two simple fabricated using laser engraving ultraviolet (UV) printing technologies on polished stainless steel (SS304) plate. The UV-printed metallic alloy delivered mean error (MRE) 0.057 pixels root (RMSE) 0.063 pixels, standard deviation lower than 0.003 pixels. design offers better any other target, comparable results best prominent circular reported literature.

Mapping Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV)-based thermal images of building façades onto a Building Information Model (BIM) can greatly support energy audit. However, accurately registering these into BIM is challenging due to image's unique characteristics low texture and high distortion. To address issues, this paper proposes new multi-source image fusion framework for UAV BIM. First, low-cost target designed produced using 3D printing calibrating camera. The rectified are then fused with RGB through Homography transformation, enabling be registered Additionally, histogram-based approach proposed correct the thermally inconsistent phenomenon enhance contrast produce high-contrast thermal-textured Field tests confirmed mean error around 5.713 pixels. A case study on masonry demonstrated feasibility effectiveness framework.

Monitoring building efficiency is a hot topic for engineers and researchers. TIR (Thermal Infrared) images describe thermal attributes but require professional knowledge analysis. Moreover, can hardly the of buildings in all aspects. Therefore, as-built point clouds become solution. In this case, geometric distortions not be neglected. To generate with image sequences, we propose to use MLS (Mobile Laser Scanning) as control sets calibration workflow cloud generation. begin with, intensity are generated from clouds, corresponding points detected frame. intrinsic parameters estimated points. Finally, calibrated clouds. The result demonstrates that automatic method achieve comparable or even better results than manual method.
