Graphene is a carbon-based nanomaterial used in various industries to improve the performance of hundreds materials. For instance, graphene-like materials have been employed as asphalt binder modifying agents pavement engineering. In literature, it has reported that (in comparison an unmodified binder) Modified Asphalt Binders (GMABs) exhibit enhanced grade, lower thermal susceptibility, higher fatigue life, and decreased accumulation permanent deformations. Nonetheless, although GMABs stand out significantly from traditional alternatives, there still no consensus on their behavior regarding chemical, rheological, microstructural, morphological, thermogravimetric, surface topography properties. Therefore, this research conducted literature review properties advanced characterization techniques GMABs. Thus, laboratory protocols covered by manuscript are atomic force microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic shear rheometer, elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman electron thermogravimetric X-ray diffraction, photoelectron spectroscopy. Consequently, main contribution investigation state-of-the-art identification prominent trends gaps current state knowledge.

The hydrocarbon group-type composition (so-called SARA -composition) is one of the main characteristics oil, providing an information about its chemical nature and determining quality obtained petroleum products. In world laboratory practice, data on feedstock are widely used to assess colloidal stability compatibility with crude reactivity in various conversion processes, predicting physical properties, etc. Traditionally, determined accordance standard research chromatographic methods that differ significantly from each other, which often leads obtaining incomparable analytical results. this paper, a comparative analysis results two test within open-column liquid chromatography method carried out for samples Russian origin (commercial oils different classes products). Using ASTM D4124 (method B) developed by JSC VNII NP, content identical groups maltene part was determined: saturated hydrocarbons (SH) paraffinic-naphthenic (PNH), naphthenic aromatic (NAH) (AH), polar (PAH) resins (R), respectively. It shown increase density viscosity samples, less (SH PNH) their decreases more (PAH R) obviously increases, there no pronounced distribution pattern NAH AH groups. Statistical processing revealed insignificant differences «heavy viscous» oils, despite large error those according method. Obtaining comparable justifies use both not only high-boiling products, but also oil samples.

The saturate, aromatic, resin, and asphaltene content in petroleum (SARA composition) provides valuable information about the chemical nature of oils, oil compatibility, colloidal stability, fouling potential, other important aspects chemistry processing. For that reason, SARA composition data are for engineering research practice. Unfortunately, results measurements reported by diverse laboratories frequently very dissimilar development a method to assign from bulk properties is question deserves attention. Petroleum fluids with great variability were employed this study model their fraction contents density, flash point, sulfur content, simulated distillation characteristics. Three mining techniques: intercriteria analysis, regression, artificial neural networks (ANNs) applied. It was found ANN models predicted higher accuracy resins asphaltenes, whereas non-linear regression most accurately saturate but an lower than literature regarding uncertainty measurement. aromatic poorly all investigated techniques, although prediction within performed suggests as well properties, additional characteristics need be explored account complex order improve prognosis.
